lol when my kid was like three or four he’d watch some British cartoon called “gecko’s garage “ or something, and they’d pronounce it “garridge.” So my kid started saying it that way.

One day I’m driving him somewhere and he asks me “daddy, why didn’t you park the car in the garridge?”

“It’s a garage.”

“Garridge!”

“No. Say ga-raage.”

“Garridge!”

“GARAGE! We’re not British!”

“No! Garridge…”.

“Ugh! Whatever!”

“We’re having a quarrel! :-D “

Plain, simple Garridge.

Car coffin?

But gare-ij actually sound more like mispelled Indian English.

Now that I think about it, I'm surprised that the British term for garage isn't "motor home."

[–] PatMustard 4 points 7 months ago

A motor home is like a camper van, what you'd call an RV

Gare idge is what OP was going for phonetically.

British accents are non-rhotic, so really it should be "ga-ridge", not "gare-ridge".

British accents are non-rhotic

Except the ones that aren't

True, albeit a very small minority.

Sure, but -ji is a commonly used honorific in Hindi and related languages.

Not objectively the same thing, tho. Potential intruders can peer into a carport, without even committing trespassing. If they want to see into your car-hole, they have to already commit themselves to breaking the law, before they even consider stealing your whip.

It's actually gay-raj.
