At this point my stance on this is that the people arguing about this need to go to the woods on a hike and touch grass.
No, please no more unfamiliar people hiking in the woods. Especially folks arguing about stuff like this. The two most dangerous things in the woods are sprained joints or broken bones from an accidental fall and being exposed to extreme weather.
On a populated trail in the summer starting at 10AM with water and layers you are incredibly safe. The drive is usually the most dangerous part of the wilderness by a vast margin.
