In The US, calling anyone who espouses anything which even remotely resembles a left-wing view communist is a time honored tradition. Shit, Breitbart called Micheal Bloomberg Maoist.

For me it's invigorating. As someone who is so far left leaning that I tilt toward that side of the earth's axis, I love when someone calls me a communist. At last, someone being honest about who I am honestly and happily.
