We've considered it, but it's honestly very scary. A LOT of substance abuse and mental health issues are genetic. You can end up being a perfect parent and still end up with a hellion of a child. I know that even people who are predisposed towards problematic behavior deserve families, I'm just not sure that we're strong enough to be that family. I have a very close, lifelong friend, who has been an absolute terror for his adopted family his entire life, despite always being treated with love and affection. He finally found his birth mom a few years back and she's exactly like him. She's a career tweaker who was in jail when he found her. Anyways, by all means, adopt. We're considering it. But it's pretty darned scary.
Wow what a fucking toxic mindset. Don't adpot but don't make the kids responsible.
