Ended up installing newpipe (or other app of your choice) and set it as the default app for YouTube video links ๐Ÿคท Edit: and of course you can set it as default for other sites, including peertube

NewPipe is the MVP. my partner played a link on regular YT the other day and there were five ads for a ~20 minute video. absolutely disgusting.
