The white gunman who killed three Black people at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida, over the weekend wore a Rhodesian army patch on his tactical vest, law enforcement sources say, a reference that has been used before during white supremacist attacks.

The patch — representing Rhodesia, a former white minority-ruled territory in southern Africa in the 1960s and ’70s that would become Zimbabwe — is yet another symbol of how the shooter, Ryan Palmeter, was racist and was influenced by racist ideology, investigators say.

The way they see it, to be white is 'civilised' and to be black is 'uncivilised'. That's why the first instance is considered bad and the second is considered good. See also: Ron DeSantis and 'positive' outcomes of slavery.

Without mentioning how stupid it is for americans to ramble about protecting the natives (of Europe) considering what they did to theirs

[–] Spendrill@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

That's all part and parcel of the same thing, ~~kill~~ murder the uncivilised natives and then erect cities named after ancient Greek and Roman places to show off your civilised status.

Edit: you know what, part of the lemmy migration is being able to say things as they are and rereading this comment there is something that don't sit quite right, so let me just cross this out and write something else: there. All fixed.

There are ways to "civilise" (AKA cultural assimilation/imposition) that don't imply murdering the natives. In fact, that's what the "civilised societies" of the Greeks and the Romans did.

That's basically the reason why demographics in the old world have barely changed apart from small percentages of DNA, but the Anglos had to be different while LARPing as the Romans

Sure there are ways to do it without massive bloodshed and I would hope that's the way that everyone decides to do it in the coming years as large populations from the global south are forced to migrate to the new temperate zones.

But the white wing in the US are in their endgame now. They were able to nobble democracy in their favour in the most grotesque ways while they were a majority and very soon they are not going to be and so, in a farcical echo of the 1860s, it seems their plan is to secede by making states with a higher degree of common sense kick them out of the federation by making ever more deranged legislation.

You know what’s even funnier? Europeans aren’t native to Europe either. The Proto-Indo-European people likely arose in the Central Asian steppes. And they “invaded” Europe and either killed most of all the ACTUAL indigenous Europeans (jk… before non-PIE Sapiens there were the Neanderthals, and perhaps Erectus before them we still don’t know), or, get this, outbred them. And for sure interbred them out of existence.

Only the Basque remain. Maybe.

Im just gonna point out that the Indo-European migrations most likely werent bloody conquests. They took tgousands years, its probable that the expansion was a mix of cultural expansion, conquest, and ruling class inter-mingling (think normans) that is to say it was probably not some grand bloody conquest but a general shift over millenia. Though the Hittites probably were an example of general conquest of a region.

Also the Neanderthals were probably going extinct before homo-sapiens moved into Eurasia, or atleast had a pretty nasty population collapse.

[–] novibe@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The Neanderthals likely had very low populations to begin with. And I know it likely wasn’t conquest.

We can’t rule it 100% out, but as I said, the PIE mostly outbred and interbred the og europeans away. Which is ironic because that’s what modern Europeans say will happen to them.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ok wasnt sure, the way you put it sounded like you thought it was abject conquest. Also I find it funny since as I understand it immigrants in europe are usually assimilated within three generations.

[–] novibe@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It’s always projection… Europeans know they can’t assimilate and destroy every culture around them. So they are deathly afraid it to be done to them.

Thats best seen with the French, who basically tried colonizing all the cultures who werent from around Paris. And the English aint got a right to bitch about minorities, ya dont get to bitch when you conquered half the fucking planet.

[–] Diprount_Tomato@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

They just mixed with them and imposed their language and culture, and that's my point later on

Btw I could say that "native Americans aren't natives of America, they're Siberian dudes that crossed the Bering straight 16500 years ago"

[–] novibe@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

Yeah we could. Except we now have good evidence for native Americans pre 16kya. But yeah, I never disagreed hahaha
