why link lemmy.world when there's https://join-lemmy.org/
Experience from 12 days ago from someone using join-lemmy: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/35480016
In summary: it was quite messy, they ended up on a unmaintained, slow instance and had to change
That thread shows everything wrong with lemmy at the moment.
"Go to lemmy.world"
"No, we need to fight centralization. Go to lemmy.ml instead."
"No, those are tankies. Go to lemmy.ee [sic] or sh.itjust.works."
"I've switched and now can't see any posts."
"Yeah, you need to ctrl+select English and Undetermined as languages in the settings."
"Use this client, it costs money but it's only a one-time purchase".
"No, use that client."
"I used that client, but got only server errors."
"Well, it Works On My Machine^TM^."
When you've been on Lemmy for a while this might all make some sort of sense, but to everyone else, this is complete and utter madness.
Honestly this is normal for new ecosystems. Right now lemmy is still mostly only attractive to reddit refugees who are also tech nerds. Streamlining will come in time and then the floodgates for eternal summer will open and ruin the platform 🙏
ok but lemmy.world still shouldn't be the default
I agree
pick one
Maybe link to a site with a list of instances and their locale?
"Lemmy has 42k monthly active users
Feel free if you have any questions"
Those two instances should fit everyone's need.
There's this Github page but it might not be user friendly enough.
