When do got determine it's time to pick the onions? We have them in the ground for the first time this year

I'm not really sure of the 'correct' way, but I pull them when they are almost popping out of the ground and look good enough to use. Not very scientific, I know.

These onions had more growing to do, accidentally bought giant sets! But it was getting tight in my raised bed.

I let them go until the tops fall over, then pull them. If you were out of space then pulling them was the right thing to do.
