Their role is entirely dependant on feeding the cash machine, of which the military industrial complex is a huge part. The cult of personality is just a convenient means to an end. If it's no longer convenient it'll disappear.

People who care that much about how their OS looks are going to spend hours customizing it anyway

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 33 minutes ago

I sure do. In exchange for those free TVs we had to watch 30 seconds of awkward middle schoolers doing a news report followed by 6 teen spirit perfume commercials in a row every homeroom period.

Well tbf what you're losing is the UK's culture. Finding a balance of other stuff that works for you instead of clinging to tradition is how you build a culture of your own.

It didn't move anything. The filesystem got corrupted and that directory was erroneously marked as unused space, which is probably why you were running chkdsk in the first place. Lost and found is the correct place to put files recovered this way because chkdsk doesn't know where they're supposed to go. Fsck does the same thing and in fact lost+found is a default directory on most (all?) unices

It was a stupid and unnecessary decision, yeah. That didn't make it a bad OS though. It was a step up from windows 7 in almost every way other than a dumb aesthetic choice that people became hyper focused on.

What does windows 11 have to do with my statement about the dumb reasons people rejected windows 8?

Windows 8 has some great improvements under the hood. I especially like the task manager changes. But people couldn't take the start menu looking different, broke their little heads. Shouldn't have even mattered, the correct way to use the start menu is hit the windows key, type the first 4 letters of what you want to launch, and hit enter

There's also the aspect of the managerial "I had to do it so why should you get to skip to the middle" attitude, which isn't fair but is reality

This wouldn't be hard for one person to do. A few VoIP accounts, a script to send texts, and a list of names and numbers purchased from any number of data miners for a few bucks. My money is on some neck beard who did it for the lulz.

I don't think it's going to be krystallnacht on lgbtq like people on the internet say, but if I'm wrong do you want to count on the NYPD to protect you from feds?

Mary was 14, and God is supposedly everyones father. That story gets darker the longer you look at it.
