Who do you think will stop them then? Are you counting on Americans to "rise up" like the average German moderate in the 1930's did?
Just because an island has a smaller population doesn't make it any more or less predisposed to egalitarianism, nor do large populations have to be predisposed to authoritarianism.
Time for peace is long gone, we've already let it get too far at this point.
I'd like to believe that there are good cops out there that will be like "hey wait a minute" and when push comes to shove they'll be some of the greatest allies of the people, who protects the people and not just the powerful. I'd like to believe.
I see a lot of neoliberal fascist democrats in this thread, seeing a lot more of them on lemmy.world now. They'll sooner blame a "tankie" on the internet than their own beloved party who sold out to fascists. Neolibs still haven't figured out that red/blue are just two sides of the same fascist coin, and are quick to turn on other leftists (because they're actually right wing af)

It's also worth mentioning the consolation in the fact that fascism always fails, eats itself alive, and collapses. It's inherently unstable and unsustainable. It can collectivize a lot of power real fast, and do a lot of damage as a result, but it never lasts. Human beings need to cooperate, and hyper competitive individualism creates false loyalty and betrayals, minimal trust, minimal cooperation. Great pains and efforts, and the use of their power, is always spent trying to fight against human nature to maintain their order. Human nature always prevails.
