As a software engineer...

Don't just say "just Google it". Guide them to the documentation. Ask them about the detail of the question. If it's an bug, try asking them if they can reproduce the bug.

This reminded me of the time I'm looking for how to do certain things in a software. I found a reddit post asking about the same issue and this is the reply OP got:

screenshot of a reddit thread where OP got a rude reply to search it themselves

Here is the link: https://old.reddit.com/r/i3wm/comments/mupjsf/how_to_showhide_i3status_bar_taskbar/

Imagine. You search the issue you have. Found the ONLY reddit thread that talks about this, and the ONLY thread that talks about the issue have NO USEFUL ANSWER and, worse, the only reply is TELLING YOU TO SEARCH IT YOURSELF. This got upvoted too ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ.

Luckily, I found the solution (tbh the solution was there in the docs, but the wording wasn't clear and it makes it hard to search) and I end up replying the OP the actual answer.

So, this is a PSA for the fediverse: be nice. It's free.

While we're still young, we have a chance to become a better forum.

Also possibly an unpopular opinion: you shouldn't downvote a question, even if it was asked multiple times. Guide them to the answer instead

Yeah, I've said this before, but USA seems like a perfect place to build a HSR right? It seems like an ez money too now that I think about it.

Copying my comment on !publictransport@slrpnk.net :

Iโ€™m not even from USA to be clear, but my limited image of USA is that it lacks efforts of building public transport, especially compared to other developed countries. Heck, compared to developing countries even.

One of the example, US seems like a perfect place to build a high-speed rail network. Yet, CAHSR seems to keep getting delayed. In comparison Morocco has a HSR. Even Indonesia has one opened last year.

Also I haven't really looked into this Vegas Loop thing until now, and the tweet was right, it only connects a convention center and a hotel LOL

Iโ€™m on the Sublinks Matrix, the project has come to a halt.

That's sad :( any specific reason why?

Mbin so far looks promising to me

I prefer to have my own community, I already have my own vision/preference on what I want the community would be like

I've said this before:

I wanted something like Skyscrapercity forum but on Lemmy, or something similar to r/transit.

(As a context, in Skyscrapercity is a discussion forum about infrastructures in the world, underrated website)

Public transports are not limited to trams, trolleys, and street cars. It also includes trains, high-speed rail buses, etc. And my vision for this community is that I want the community to be discussion-oriented. For example, the accessibility of a public transport, the obstacles of building one, the ticket price, the effect it has on the city, integrations between modes, etc. Take a look at https://reddit.com/r/transit for example.

To be clear, I'm not saying that !trams_trolleys_streetcars@lemmy.blahaj.zone is a bad community, it just has difference purpose, as far as I can understand. I'll probably try to crosspost some of the post there.

Also, I'm still not sure what type of posts succeed the most. Whether it's discussion/question posts, photos, or posting links from other websites

I also try to engage in the comment section after posting

I'm thinking of adding "Question of the Week" type of thread to !publictransport@slrpnk.net
