That is really interesting.

So we have fungi growing on the outside of the ISS, and we have fungi growing were there is very little available moisture.

So hard vacuum and almost no moisture doesn't kill off fungi. It can evolve to take advantage of extremely high energy radiation.

I wonder if fungi could grow on asteroids?

Inglorious bastards had some great moments. But overall I didn't like it.

I was surprised by the reaction to this movie. I really enjoyed it.

I get this, other than Pulp Fiction, I dislike all of Tarantino's films.

I don't like the style or the pacing, I don't like the revisionist take on events.

But people generally like his films.

Unfortunately a union after the fact does nothing to help the workers.

Unions are great for ensuring that the profit from their labour; is fairly distributed.

If the company is unprofitable; forming a union to squeeze blood from a stone is not helpful. It will just hasten the demise. These tariffs, as others have pointed out are probably making their fixed term contracts into money losers.....We don't have all the data, but it is quite likely.

And from a personal point of view, smaller companies tend to care more than big ones....I've worked in both. Being 1 of 5 is great, being 1 of 15,000 not so much.

This fucks me off sooooooooo much; in NZ there are a lot of (a fuck of a lot) of roads that don't have overtaking zones for a long way.

Getting an opportunity to overtake the slow prick you have been following for 20 minutes, just to have them speed up....forcing me to go faster than I'm comfortable with, then being in front and have them sitting on your arse for the next 10km, even though you are going faster than before you overtook them.......FUCK OFF!!!!!

This is the only correct answer

That is exactly the same for your kids, it is not until their world expands a bit when they are 3-5YO; before that you are literally everything to them.

Another take:

The happy rider, is a conspiracy theory enjoyer. Happy in the "knowledge" that someone (anyone) is at the controls of the world, it gives comfort in a perverse way. Even though they know that the "controllers" are doing bad things.
The sad rider, is a realist. Can see that they are stuck on a trolley that is currently plowing through people, their personal actions mean nothing in the aggregate of all other actions in the world. They saw that the person at the leaver chose to keep themselves pure, rather than reduce the suffering in the world and taint themselves in the process.

Agenda 2025, is not written by trump.

He is easily manipulated.

Those wanting to effect change will have little problem.

Even though it is an Australian movie The Castle is pretty good

About 1000 internet years ago. I saw one of those "demotivation" posters and I want to find out again.

The text was something along the lines of

Don't wait to be corrupted, embrace the evil inside. Be the chaos you want to see in the world.

I was having a conversation about characters from various childhood shows.

I always thought that Oscar the grouch didn't make any sense. Why would you live in a bin?

But it occurred to me that maybe the Grouch evolved to hunt like a trapdoor spider, they hunt mainly racoons but also cats and anything else that happens into their bin.

Initially forest dwelling, with the rise of human civilisation; they have become adapted to living in cities which afford many pre-made "burrows" (bins). The lure of easy food, brings their prey to them.

I was reading a post about unique things you wouldn't want, such as a nasty medical condition named after you.

That got me thinking.

What is the most unique thing.

Being the tallest person doesn't count, because there is always a tallest person...

I thought maybe units of measure, there are not really that many units named after people. Newton, Pascal, ampere etc... Turns out there are quite a few.

Next thought was atomic elements, there are 19 named after 20 people. That is fairly unique 20 people out of the ~110 billion to have ever lived, have an element named after them.

I wonder what option the greens will have from here.

I was reading a comment thread recently.

One commenter stated that they are aware of the people who are "dumber" than them, and if they are not aware the person they are talking to is either similar in intelligence or smarter than they are.

So my question is, do you have this awareness?

Are you conscious of your relative standing in the intelligence hierarchy around you?

And a side point, can you tell a smart person is acting dumb to fit in with those around them?

What arsehole teachers.

I empathize with the mum, worrying about the government cutting the program.... They will be looking for any excuse

What the actual fuck!

As the title says.

If you don't know the discworld books by Pratchett, Granny Weatherwax it the most formidable character. She is a witch, but doesn't generally use magic to solve problems; preferring to use persuasion and manipulation. In saying that her magic is extremely powerful.

Maybe a bard with huge wisdom, persuasion and intimidation.

Just wow!

What a psycho.

Air New Zealand has abandoned a 2030 goal to cut its carbon emissions, blaming difficulties securing more efficient planes and sustainable jet fuel.

The move makes it the first major carrier to back away from such a climate target.

The airline added it is working on a new short-term target and it remains committed to an industry-wide goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

The aviation industry is estimated to produce around 2% of global carbon dioxide emissions, which airlines have been trying to reduce with measures including replacing older aircraft and using fuel from renewable sources.
