You can't just assume everyone who didn't vote is a leftist or did it for Palestine. That's kinda crazy, and you have no proof of that. You're just assuming that so you have an excuse to get mad at people who don't deserve it instead of your precious DNC. More realistically, they're just non-political people who don't do research, didn't care, and weren't charged enough to go vote by the Dems message and rhetoric, and did they probably have a short as hell memory because they weren't scared enough of Trump (maybe because he was a known quantity or something). Those people googling if Biden dropped out the night of the election or had no idea RFK dropped out? They're probably more like them.

TERF Island isn't much better. You'll probably have to fight there, too. Once they're done with fighting trans people, they'll go back to fighting other LGBTQ people, it happens every time. But I get wanting to leave the US. I've been considering it, too. You got to do what's best for your family.

No leftist thinks "Joe wasn't that bad". On his watch Israel has killed an estimated almost 200,000 people (using more accurate figures by the Lancet and people on the ground since their health center basically can't count anymore since they don't have the infrastructure), started their initiation of the general's plan starving out Northern Gaza, made everyone but a doctor flee the last hospital in Northern Gaza, start taking over West Bank, killed a record number of journalists in any conflict ever, kill the people they were negotiating with multiple times, and let them start a war with Lebanon and Iran. Oh and also sent backup to Yemen and put troops in Israel to protect them from retribution since apparently Israel is the only country allowed to defend themselves. Trump will do the same thing, but just talk about it more. It'll be tough for him to reach those heights, even if he sends more troops in, it'll just be continuing the logical next step of what Biden was doing.

It's pretty normal for people not to vote for someone genociding their family. It's her fault, not the voters. The same way Democrats threw away the votes of the left and Palestinians because they didn't care if they were being genocided is the same logic the right uses to vote for Trump for the economy despite all the damage he'll do to women and other minorities. You're all equally selfish and you don't have the moral high ground when you're supporting a genocide and quieting any dissent on it. People tried to say this could lose her the election, but nothing can be the politicians fault, of course, just the voters.

Anyway, turns out it wasn't the genocide anyway. She lost Michigan because of it probably but it didn't matter anywhere else, and she lost the election before it was even added. You can add up all the third party votes and it didn't amount to shit. It was the economy. It always is. People in fucking rural Pennsylvania haven't been reading hexbear posts or whatever. They just didn't buy what she was selling.

Or course, if it was the genocide, that just proves what the left was saying all along: she's got to do better on this issue or she can lose the election, and she'd rather lose than not do a genocide. Turned out she probably would've lost either way but still, hopefully the next Democrat candidate will do better, or we can supplant the party with a new one that can run an actual campaign. You can keep doing the bullying thing, but it didn't work this election, or in 2016, and it won't work next election either. Stop trying to convince the voters to care about what you want them to care about, and telling them not to care about what you don't care about, and time to meet them where they are.

I believe it. Coming in blind having never having seen the original probably helped a lot.

Good idea. I haven't used my local library in awhile, but I'm worried about library funding with Trump. It's why this is the first time in a long time I looked into a book from the library. I'm using any excuse to like you said, argue their services are being actively used. It's good to hear it confirmed that it does actually help librarians and that they're encouraging that.

Going to give an old example and a new example.

I remember liking the Aeon Flux movie. Don't remember too much about it, but I remember enjoying it, and favorably comparing it to Ultraviolet which came out around the same time. Recently I heard someone bring it up in a podcast as a terrible movie and it turns out it's pretty universally panned lol.

A more recent example is The Watchers. I thought it was pretty good and kept my interest the whole time, but seems pretty middling from reviews. A lot of people especially didn't like the ending, which I guess was kind of sudden, but still alright imo. Not noteworthy in being especially bad or anything.

I thought it did some cool stuff with making the Facehuggers scary again and the

Tap for spoilerHybrid alien was cool. Although apparently that was a reference to an alien movie I haven't seen yet or something?

Anyway, I really liked it as well.

I really liked that movie. Great example for me, too.

Because she's party of the administration in power and people aren't happy right now, so they blame whoever is in power even if it's not quite their fault. They don't care that the rate of inflation slowed to basically normal, they care that things are still expensive because their wages haven't risen to match the raised inflation and their savings are lower. It used to be easier for incumbents, but as the conditions in the US continue to degrade from late stage capitalism and 60 years of neoliberal policies, I have a feeling it will continue to be the opposite.

Holding the line won't work with people getting poorer every year (and if your wage doesn't match inflation or the rising costs of housing or transportation, that's what happening, you're getting poorer).

I've been seeing suggestions for that book a lot. I was even going to see if I can grab it from my local library, but it's just an e-book for some reason. I guess I can read it on my tablet but i prefer physical books. I do want to support my library though by using them, so it's a tough choice lol.

Johnston... previously pleaded guilty to a felony count of interfering with law enforcement during civil disorder in July 2024.

The 56-year-old actor was initially arrested in June 2023 after the FBI tweeted a photo requesting information about his identity. He is alleged to have led a group to the “front line of rioters confronting the police who were defending the entrance” to the Capitol, helping to launch an assault against a group of officers.

I heard about this in the UK elections recently, and someone recommended it to me recently for the US elections, because I said I empathize with the people who are voting against Kamala because of the genocide, despite being a Kamala supporter myself (you've probably seen me around arguing as such lol).

Basically, it's a system where people in safe states, like me, agree to trade votes with someone in a swing state. So the safe state person would vote with the heart of the person in the swing state, so they can kind of vote their heart and mind at the same time.

Is this a thing we could set up? Would it be legal to make a community for that, or would it rub against laws about affecting votes or something? There was even a whole site for the UK, but not sure if it would work in the US.

I need some new shoes for every day work and walking. I basically only have one pair of casual shoes, one pair of running and gym shoes, and one pair of dress shoes right now, and the first one is falling apart.

I spend most of the day in slacks and collared shirts sitting at a computer, but my work site also involves multiple buildings about 10-15 minutes walk from each other, so that surprisingly the walking and standing can add up throughout the day. Plus, like I said, only got one pair of shoes right now, so I literally wear them all the time for almost everything.

So it would be nice if I could just wear them in normal life, too, so they look good hanging out with friends, going to an amusement park, or going on a stroll. Or maybe I just need to get another pair of shoes, so I can have some that are comfortable and some that look good when I go out to a nice bar or whatever lol.

What do you guys suggest? What shoes do you guys wear for the office or normal every day use? Just white sneakers or something else? What brands or styles?

EDIT: Loving all the recommendations so far! Keep 'em coming!

I have, but I'm going through the Remake trilogy and my partner is watching me complete the game. As far as I know they have somehow stayed unspoiled this whole time, so I'm going to try to keep it that way as long as I can. I'm playing Remake on Hard to remember the story and delay until my next paycheck, but will zoom through as fast as I can to get any cool stuff I missed and then jump into Rebirth.

But I'm just curious, will they still enjoy Rebirth as much as I enjoyed the original games? Or do they change too many things for the sake of the meta-narrative? They are adamant they won't play the original btw, they are watching me play for the story while on their phone, and I don't think will be able to get past the old graphics and lack of voice acting, so I suspect the "This is a sequel, just play the original game" line I keep seeing on Reddit won't fly for them.

Hey Lemmy,

What are your favorite horror movies from Blumhouse?

I went to Universal Studio's Halloween Horror Nights this year and they had the whole tram Blumhouse themed. I liked to watch horror movies during this spooky season, so i think catching up on some of these ones seems like a good place to start this year.

It's that spooky time of year again! Anyone here have thoughts about the big scary amusement park events in the area?

Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights vs
Six Flags Fright Fest vs
Knotts Scary Farm

For people who enjoy these scary, fun events, which do you prefer most? Are there other Halloween events in Los Angeles you prefer more (Los Angeles Haunted Hay Ride or Queen Mary's Dark Harbour, for example)?

USGS says it's 4.7, so going with that despite it being different from the LA Times headline.

What I think I know : They tried to take a picture at Arlington National Cemetery, but couldn't? There was a physical altercation maybe? But the Trump campaign said there wasn't?

Is there more to this? Can someone explain to me the context of how this is a scandal?

Like I hate Trump but I don't understand why this is a big deal. It doesn't seem to involve the man personally, just some staffers who had an argument with a cemetery worker, and seems like small potatoes compared to other scandals he's had. Is it because of how sacred the cemetary is, or did they get into an actual fist fight, or did Trump personally interfere in some way?
