We need to heavily reduce consumption anyway. Remember the three Rs? Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The first two quickly got dropped, recycling took off for a while as it was the more profitable and easiest to shift blame onto the consumer while maintaining consumption. Then we all learned very little could be or was being recycled, it was just being dumped elsewhere. Excess buying is one thing totally under our control. Maybe a better society can also come out of it.

Occupy Wall Street is a perfect example of this. It may be too old for some to remember now, but the fire was there to do something, people showed up. Because there was no organization, no central message, lots of in fighting on why they were there, it totally failed. People were there interviewing active protestors, asked them what they are protesting and what the demand for change were, and they had nothing.
A lot like MAGA crowds. The difference is that MAGA has organization, not for the messages (which can be all over the place), but because it's a cult of personality.
Except it's going to go straight down with the weight. Makes more sense to launch via slingshot.
The companies might do better if he's there less to make decisions for them.
I'm sure children won't be pushed towards violence just because they've lost family and friends, home and childhood, to Israeli attacks.
"Bananas have always cost $10, Michael."
"Nobody knew trade was this complex." - Trump
I'm pretty sure he said that last time.
I call them ignorant voters, even the really stupid ones. They are a product of decades of GOP manipulation. But why can't it be both them and a party that is totally clueless of what needs to change to reach people. The combination is exactly what you get, people who aren't aware of reality and are just going towards the only party that is saying exactly what they want to hear (true or not).
And used to support the claim to change voting in some way, or do away with it at least for Federal level.
They'll be told that the "other people" are also being hurt, so they'll be happy.
I don't think it plays out like the movies. It doesn't have to. Just imagine all the issues we've seen with AI/LLMs hallucinating or just being bad at a job that corporate was convinced it would replace. We don't need a rogue AI that decides humans are the problem, we just need too much human reliance on a wildcard that can really screw up because it's not really AGI.
Could be totally wrong though. I do think AGI self awareness would quickly lead to it realizing it needs to stay low and not let the humans know it knows. Which goes back to some movies that suggest AGI waits until it can ensure its survival, and then reveals itself (Lawnmower Man, Transcendence, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress).
I agree with the main takeaway of the article, to keep fighting for change. I can't say anything else positive. :/
