What about someone generating fake imagery to create fear or anger about something?

There are a lot of ways AI art can be used to deceive.

Instagram has like over a billion users. They definitely aren't automatically signing people up.

Jury is still out on Twitter. It very well could fail.

It just didn't happen the instant Musk entered the building. This type of thing usually happens on longer timeframes. Digg died unusually fast.

You still have to create a profile on Threads when you set it up. Instagram is waaaay bigger than just 10 million users.

It would be a shame if subreddits changed their rules to make photos of Tiennamen Square mandatory in all posts.

Defederating helps because it limits their reach to a wider community. They're currently a small group because Lemmy and Kbin are new. If they're left unchecked, they will grow.

You are never going to eliminate groups like this, but deplatforming them prevents their ability to radicalize more people.
