Molotov cocktails just pollute the environment

Not as much as the capitalists they'll be getting rid of

[–] AnnaFrankfurter@lemmy.ml 2 points 8 months ago

Hey guillotines are just as effective as Molotov cocktails.

You'd probably get more people on side if you didn't use a logo that everyone associates with mass-murder and oppression. This is like having "cool kids have the right to freedom" slapped on a big USA flag, or "cool kids bring civilisation to the needy" on a sigil of the Roman Empire.

What

The only people associating the hammer and sickle with negativity are the propagandized populations of imperial core countries lol, and their opinions don't really matter for global emancipation

I thought they were talking about the guillotine lmao

Sure they are comrade, I'm sure the millions that starved or were executed under Stalin don't really matter either. Or was that all propaganda and everyone actually had a lovely time?

executed under Stalin don’t really matter

Agreed. I don't think nazis matter either.

millions that starved

What?? :0 I thought the USSR eradicated death entirely. You're telling me people starved during the biggest war in recent history? In the region that had the most backwards feudal system under the tsars and had barely finished a civil war?

Great bait mate, 'everyone against me is a Nazi', flawless strat

[–] Alsephina@lemmy.ml 3 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Eh? I doubt they all were. 5 million or so of them were nazis. I assumed that's who you were talking about.

That's like the poor Pepe - massively used as we all know it, but then like two racists (or whatever, I don't even remember) used it & USA media spammed that all over the place (reaching a far wider and non internet and also other racist audience).

Now there are Discord servers I can get banned for using Pepe (in a normal way, not even sure how that could be confused). And I don't, I believe there are marginalised ppl there that would feel bad seeing it & I don't want that.

But Pepe didn't deserve this, neither did swastika, or farmfolks hammer & sickle. Yet they have bs meaning now just because it suits someone.

Basically all people living in countries that were part of USSR do. We hate russia and hammer and siclke and other communist symbols like a red star for a good reason.

[–] PatMustard 1 points 8 months ago

It's weird how some people will rightly accept that the masses in America are being oppressed but refuse to accept that anyone was oppressed under the Soviet Union. I can only assume it's because they live in the USA and only see one thing happening and can't possibly accept that two global superpowers could both be doing bad things rather than a nice simple goodies vs baddies.

What you are saying is to use the expression(s) as the currently active propaganda dictates and not explaining what they actually mean, and especially why they mean what they do in you local propaganda (which is just another name for the loudest mouth around).

Adding new symbols for established and widely known concepts can backfire, as the counterparty can easily muddy the new symbol by calling it the old symbol.

Im not saying, that those meanings are not true, you are right ofc, it's just that education goes a long (or actually all) the way. Like, you basically can't imagine western world without a swastika being a Nazi thing, yet that could have been the case.

Its always the victors that fud people (duh), eg its not like the French revolution was always seen as a good thing (or not just as killing and pillaging), it took years, decades even to become synonymous with freedoms(the non-β„’ kind).

If the revolution failed, the eg guillotine (or whatever) could have been commonly as hated as nazi swastika, not a thing little goth girls with loving parents play with.
