Glad to see Perez's Q3 drought finally end.

Edit: Err P9 isn't all that particularly impressive though.

[–] Rinnstein@feddit.de 1 points 2 years ago

Did he abort his last lap?

[–] Acetamide@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm so happy that McLaren is keeping form. In the F1TV commentary they said that they (McLaren) were not expecting much from the Hungaroring, but Norris made it into third with Piastri keeping up in fourth!

[–] unomar@midwest.social 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

This bodes well for the rest of the season if the papaya is good on fast AND slow tracks. Lando needs a win and Piastri a podium!

Edit: I'm also stoked at the consistency taking P3 & P4.

HAMILTON POLE

HAMILTON POLE

HAMILTON POLE

[–] Sentau@lemmy.one 10 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Damn Russell got totally fucked. Also impressive by Danny ric

[–] running_squirrel@feddit.de 5 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Yeah, but in all fairness you have to say that he left more space to the car in front than many others. No wonder other drivers jumped him.

[–] Jacob93@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago

He left himself vulnerable and he knows it. Not his team’s fault that he didn’t take his moment.

[–] Sentau@lemmy.one 2 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I don't know man. I think this will lead to some fireworks between the drivers

[–] running_squirrel@feddit.de 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

And nothing will be changed. The gentlemen's agreement regarding setup position in qualifying is a joke since many years. Nearly everyone is fuming about the others but isn't acting good on the other side. It's what you get in this competitive egocentric sports format.

[–] Sentau@lemmy.one 1 points 2 years ago

I agree. Can't expect the drivers to do the 'right' thing.

[–] ButhJolokia@feddit.nl 2 points 2 years ago

Wouldn't mind some actual drama and rivalries instead of whatever Netflix manages to fabricate. Since Abu Dhabi 2021 everybody has been super okelidokeli friendly with one another. And while I do also like seeing that, it doesn't exactly get the heart pumping during the race. At least Ocon is still a proper cunt, otherwise you could start calling this Barbiela 1.

[–] SlicingBot@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

I'd take some fireworks between the two, it might be exciting. With first place seemingly sewn up I'll take my excitement where I can get it.

[–] Acetamide@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Yeah, let's hope Ricciardo keeps on improving once he gets to know the car more!

[–] chunktoplane@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago

I don't think anyone broke the rules of this race given the lack of specific investigations against drivers, but I heard on the commentary that there was going to be a general investigation?

In the past we've had minimum sector times at the end of the lap, which in this case world have presumably forced Russell out to start his final lap a little sooner.

[–] fiah@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Do we know what they did to those Alfas to make them this fast?

edit: from what I gather they just have fresh engines for this race while most of the rest of the grid do not

[–] jnzhnd@feddit.ch 1 points 2 years ago

I didn’t think Hugary was that power dependant of a track? Maybe this just shows how close the field (except for Verstappen) really is. Let‘s see if they can keep up during the race.

[–] running_squirrel@feddit.de 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The new quali format is delivering good entertainment. I didn't expect a quali that exciting

[–] Jacob93@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 years ago

I think this is more due to such a short circuit leading to really close times. I think we would have had the same mix up in a regular format.

[–] running_squirrel@feddit.de 6 points 2 years ago

Sainz out, Zhou and Bottas in. The Alfas are flying today.

[–] hrpanjwani@reddthat.com 5 points 2 years ago

Very very interesting Quali. Let’s hope the race is the same.

[–] SlicingBot@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Thrilled for Hamilton to get at least one pole this season.

If someone other than red bull wins a race this year. It would be great if it could be Hamilton.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 3 points 2 years ago

With how hard passing is here, a victory doesn't seem impossible (as long as he and Max can avoid taking each other out turn one).

[–] Jacob93@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Agreed! A great performance by Hamilton! It’ll be interesting to see how Max behaves into turn 1 trying to catch Hamilton. Has he learned since 2021?

[–] SlicingBot@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I would hope that because Max has very little to lose he will be a lot kinder on the start tomorrow. Then again those two can be so spicy.

[–] ApexHunter@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago

It is because he has little to lose that he won't.

[–] bimmerman535 3 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Who’s up for a cheeky bet that Christian is thinking about Danny Ricc back into the second seat? His interview post quali on Sky was interesting…..

[–] extraspicytuna@reddthat.com 2 points 2 years ago

What did he say?

[–] _ed@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 years ago

I didn’t hear that one but his general demeanour when talking about DR is positive not dismissive.

[–] supermurs@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

Alfa Romeo ♥️

[–] jnzhnd@feddit.ch 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Did Alfa Romeo bring any upgrades to Hungary that would explain their sudden increase in pace? Seriously hoping they can keep it in the front during the race.

[–] Sentau@lemmy.one 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

They have not brought any updates this weekend. Their sudden pace is a mystery

[–] jnzhnd@feddit.ch 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Apparently they‘ve got fresh engines this weekend. Let’s hope they can keep up during the race!

[–] Sentau@lemmy.one 2 points 2 years ago

Well it's not like Hungary is a power sensetive circuit. I feel it's more likely because the circuit characteristics suiting them + them absolutely nailing their setup

[–] Sentau@lemmy.one 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Verstappen under the same kind of pressure as Perez has been in several qualis before. Let's see how he responds

[–] running_squirrel@feddit.de 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

Refreshing to see. But let's be honest. He's on a completely different level. From driving skills to mental strength.

[–] jellos_jigglin@reddthat.com 2 points 2 years ago

Best car, too, but I think the gap has closed a bit. Best car + best driver = Max always ruining everything for everyone ;-)

[–] lps2@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

His headspace hasn't really been tested this season because his car and driving skills have put him so far ahead in most races

[–] Thrashy@beehaw.org 2 points 2 years ago

HAM-VER-BOT, just like the good ol' days!

I'm not mad about Norris ahead of all of them, though
