I think it was only the second time I've sat down to stitch this year so have a bit of catching up to do! Pattern is A Crazy Wonderful Owl Family by HAED.

This is gorgeous! Your stitches are so consistent.

Thank you! I used to railroad my stitches religiously but it was so slow that I stopped - and it stills looks okay. You have a lot of wiggle room with full coverage too, which helps.

I don’t know if full coverage would help me, lol, it might just emphasize my occasional, unfixable flubs. But whatever you’re doing is working!

Unfixable flubs = adding the personal touch. You don't really want to spend all those hours creating something absolutely identical to someone else's work, right?

Good point!

That pattern is so colourful and fun! What count are you stitching it on? Is it gonna be HUGE? πŸ˜„

Glad to find someone else who can't be bothered with always railroading. Especially when the stitches are so small I really don't think it makes a difference unless you're looking at them from really close up. And ignoring it is such a timesaver!

This is on 16ct and is one of the smaller HAEDs that I was able to find - their patterns are generally immense and not very practical at bigger count sizes, but my eyes would probably melt if I tried anything on the recommended 25ct.

So colourful! Also love the needle minder. I saw in another comment that you used to do railroading. Does it make a difference? I just stitch without a care in the world and it comes out alright at a pace I'm happy with. Some stitches appear tighter than others... But when washed, ironed and framed, it isn't exactly obvious.

I don't think railroading makes all that much of a difference unless you're using more than two strands on a big count. I think I was just complicating things for myself and I'm much happier not bothering. You've just got to find your own sweet spot and figure out what works for you!

It looks beautiful! I love the colors!

I started this after spending weeks on another owl pattern that was 11 shades of grey. The intense colours were definitely the main draw, lol.

I'm working on a larger piece right now that was supposed to be just black and white monochrome, but that seemed like it would get old fast so now it has 5 colors in it lol

That sounds intriguing, I look forward to the photos πŸ˜‰
