MODERATORS

Hi all. I am going to implement a block for sh.itjust.works. I am going to need years of therapy from all the nasty crap coming from that instance.

As someone who signed up for this instance based on its minimal blocked list, I'd like to know more. Was this targeted harassment by multiple users, bots, or something else?

Swarms of either bots or a dedicated person with multiple accounts posting scat gifs everywhere.

The same kind of account showed up spamming Kbin.social yesterday and admin got it blocked pretty quickly. I haven't seen anything like that so far today. Hopefully it's one dedicated troll and sh.itjust.works can get rid of them soon

From what I've seen so far, they seem to have a consistent issue with moderation. Hopefully, they can start running a tighter ship, catching what's clearly against their own stated rules rather than putting the onus on remote instances. Probably also something to say about Lemmy improving its moderation tools as well.

I signed up here for the same reason, this is worrying.

I respect and understand your decision, I've personally had to block a few communities from that instance due to their problematic content.

For the sake of transparency (which I feel have been the spirit of this instance so far), could you give us some examples that led up to this decision?

block hexbear while you're at it...
it's 99.9% concern trolls pretending to be ultra communist...
e.g. they like to talk about how great North Korea is... even though it's essentially a monarchy and pretty far from any communist philosophy...

everything i've seen from a hexbear account has been extremely negative... sometimes some valid criticism, but almost always it's just anti everything... except the most brutal examples of dictatorships...

To be honest... What Do people expect from a Domain literally called "shit just works"... No shit?

I actually thought it was some edgy instance from the beginning... (like most Mastodon instances i visited)

Bit lame tbh. We shouldn't be so defed trigger happy.

That being said, I made an account over there in my early days here because you were never around lol. I didn't last long. Ended up getting banned from several communities for calling out their social-justice-no-life mods on their bullshit.

kbin.social and beehaw are far, far more annoying instances than Shit Just Works.

It's not a decision because of their opinions, rather their inability to moderate their own spam of scat gifs.

I've yet to see a single instance of spam from anyone over there. Sure you chaps aren't just overly-sensitive and over-reacting?

[–] garrett@infosec.pub 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm sure. To be frank, I'd prefer they sort out their moderation inconsistencies and get federated again but as it is, Jerry's gotta deal with reviewing every single report from a member of this instance.

[–] Avian_Carrier@infosec.pub 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

…he has to deal with every single report anyway. He’s the only admin. That’s not a good excuse imo.

[–] garrett@infosec.pub 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not sure I see the logic of subjecting him to an outsized number of bad reports from a single poorly moderated instance rather than just defederating until they can become better aligned with their own stated rules. Perhaps you’d be better suited managing your own instance?

[–] Avian_Carrier@infosec.pub 1 points 1 year ago

I mean, that's a two way street. I also don't see the logic from you two. All I see is over-sensitivity. But no, I wouldn't be better managing my own instance. If I wanted to do that I wouldn't be here to begin with.
