Some combo of three adblock things I have works I haven't gotten a warning in about 4 days and last time I did I paused 1 and the others did their job

Gadget (noun): a small mechanical / electrical device or tool, especially an ingenious or novel one.
I use Firefox and Rumble so I don't care what YouTube does.

I’ve already given up on using chrome on mobile devices mainly because of performance and resource consumption, might be time to give ye ol Firefox another go after all these years
there's absolutely no way this is gonna blow up in their face.
Reveals it's next step in promoting Firefox.
You know, Google, it's a browser. I can just uninstall it and use another
whatever dude. i'll never give a cent to youtube and never stop using adblockers.
Just get Firefox, already...
Considering how Microsoft just wrecked their rewards program and that’s the only reason I use edge, might give Firefox a try again.
if chome users dont jump ship now, they deserve everything google is pushing. sitting with chrome just tells google they are accept getting rammed in any way.
Firefox is great, and it’s what I use. If you want a Chromium based browser but not Google then use Edge. I use it for everything at work and it’s great.
Opera with adblock on seems to be working for me still. I just refresh the page at the beginning of a video. If/when it stops working I will be switching to Firefox.
That's one way to kill chrome
I already don't use Chrome and have been debating about giving up other Google based software/apps.
Nonsense like this, is just going to make it easier to jump ship.
I am ready to move. Just waiting for the last nail in the coffin
"... users needed that added incentive to change their browser from Chrome to Firefox. Thank you, Google!" - the Mozilla Firefox Foundation, probably
We need a non-google controlled but properly curated extension store.
so i have used nothing but chrome forever. use uBlock Origin with all options for "good" ads turned off and have never had an issue with ads or notices from YouTube. never seen one.
is this a phone only problem?
safari with adguard/mozilla with ublock, good luck google lol
Man won't it be a shame when I just don't use YouTube for anything at all anymore
Google to users: “Youse people have had it too goods for too long. It’s time to pay up, see. And if you don’ts pay up, your gonna regrets it. Things are gonna get slow, real slow. First it’ll be the page. It’ll take so long you’ll think it’s not going to show, but right before you click away and go somewhere else, then it’ll come up. After that we’re going to slow down your extensions. We’re going to kneecap them so they can’t keep up with us. They’ll be limping along, crying for an update while we do whatever we want.
And you don’t want to know what happens next, so youse better pay up, and fast. Give us what we want or we’re going to burn this entire mother fukkin’ Chrome browser to the ground. That’s just how it is, you see?”
Edit: s/got it is/how it is/
People are still using chrome!? I stopped when I saw how much memory it actively used for 4-5 tabs. Firefox is the fucking truth people!
They want eveyone to pay the monthly fee to avoid ads. Then when they accomplish that goal they'll bring ads back for paid users too.
I'm pretty fed up with the consolidation of the internet into 3 or 4 main corporations. When there's this much consolidated control the prices go up and the experience goes down.
Hear ye, hear ye, anonymous Internet people for the accouncment of my next step in my war on Googles war on ad blockers: Using their goddamn products even less. Bing and other search engines are honestly not as far behind as memes make it seem. Free Email accounts are provided by at least a dozen other providers, and Open Street Maps and Apple Maps have gotten really good. And Google Chrome has always been an atrocious memory hog.
Are Google products better in some aspects in some use cases? Sure. But the middle finger to goddamn Google is worth it.
What is this article talking about? The company I currently work at has a chrome extension that I am involved with developing. We have been on manifest v3 (MV3) pretty much since it was released. We are able to release updates daily, or even more frequently if we wanted to.
The review process is really only for the initial publishing, and all other releases are available within minutes. The only time it might take a day or more to be available is if we update the permissions we are using.
Also, MV2 had very similar requirements already for the review process, so I really don’t know what this article is getting at.
Unpopular opinion: this is probably a good thing for security. Extensions can quite easily do things like stealing your banking credentials, sometimes even more easily than a native app. See Solar Winds for an example of how well funded actors can corrupt supply chains for “trusted” software.
A brilliant idea, sending your Chrome users over to Firefox in droves. Literally making your entire browser ecosystem worse at the expense of everybody in order to squash a few more people blocking YouTube ads.
This is hilariously out of touch because the largest adblocker around doesn't rely on extension updates to beat Google's bullshit, it pulls data from a list and updates itself regularly.
Thanks for still being cool, Firefox 🙂
"We heard there were still poeple who weren't ready to switch to Firefox, so we thought we would help out."
Lol just use Firefox.
Don't be evil
Switch to Firefox
Use LibreWolf, the end.
I'll get downvoted for this, but IDC: Adguard for the win again.
Listen as someone who makes content on YouTube and watches it I understand why ads are there but they've gone too far. Literally three ads for a two minute video and then I don't even watch more than 30 seconds of that video and I go to another video ad there's another ad to beginning. Here's what I'm prepared to do when Firefox eventually fails and it will because Google won't take this lying down I think they're going to make an app that you have to use or a program you have to download as opposed to being browser based so they have complete control. if that or something else Firefox is unusable here's what I'm prepared to do. First step is I'm literally prepared to make a playlist of videos and simply download them all and watch them when I'm ready. Literally just downloaded and watched on my own like one what did DVR content for cable box. No engagement no thumbs up no thumbs down no sharing no engagement no comments nothing. Google you could've left it the way it was with maybe at most 10% of your audience using ad blockers but now because of your own hubris and how obtuse you are to who your user is.... as far as I'm concerned at this point they deserve everything they get. And before you say oh no content creators won't make money - sponsored Block sponsored segments product placement etc. etc. they will be fine.
I gave up years ago when I started watching YouTube on my phone with an Iphone. I just get YouTube premium family plan and have two friends that help pay for it, youtube music isn't as good as google play music but I watch enough youtube on my phone and enough long form content that having multiple adds in the video would be annoying.
I don't mind paying for youtube premium but if they go for ad blockers for the internet then I will give up and go to brave browser or somewhere else its just not worth it then at that point.
Well I've been using vivaldi but I guess it's time to go back to Firefox.
Google is already useless. First they flood the top of every search with sponsored results, now it’s all YouTube movies, which are the absolute last thing I’m looking for.
Where I work, we have nearly completed transitioning away from chrome on the desktop. Some groups already require extra special permission to even install it.
This type of crap isn’t doing google any favors.
Slower extension updates...
...to a browser I don't use.
Genius
Management
One word: Pihole
I have never used chrome. Not once. I do not use edge except where required. (Hasn’t happened in ages) I’ve been using Firefox since 2004. It has always served me well, and I’m quite sure it will continue to do so. YouTube can go to the same place Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok and Twitter can go…. Straight to hell.
Do not pass Go,
Do not collect $200
Stop. Using. Chrome.
Why is Google trying to destroy itself? Are they seriously this delusional?
Do we have statistics on how many chrome users use any sort of adblockers?
I think it is something so small they don't care if you move to a different browser.
Don't use chrome.
