Why does anyone even use chrome when Firefox exists?

[–] _CMDR_@alien.top 2 points 9 months ago

Firefox is better in every way.

[–] wirecats@alien.top 2 points 9 months ago

Goodbye chrome. Hello Firefox.

And maybe in a few years: Goodbye Google apps. Hello FOSS apps

I’ve already deleted chrome from all my devices

[–] surfer808@alien.top 2 points 9 months ago

Time to use Firefox

[–] Several_Prior3344@alien.top 2 points 9 months ago

Come on over to Firefox people! It’s better than ever!

[–] marvelmon@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

This won't affect my rasberry PI running pi-hole DNS server.

[–] TravelledFarAndWide@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

We're watching google becoming stale, losing the innovation edge and turning into an old person's tech company. It's going to end up like AT&T struggling to understand the world around it.

[–] aeiron@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

👏 switch 👏 to 👏 firefox 👏

[–] jmaneater@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Kernel access requirements incoming

[–] GenuineSteak@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Firefox gigachad

[–] itsthreeamyo@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Firefox is there to keep all those ex-chrome users warm and fed.

[–] DrSpaceman667@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Google is an evil company now. Just stop using chrome. YouTube is the last good thing, but it's only good because of the creators- the app itself is pretty terrible.

[–] Anonymity6584@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Good luck on that when people move to different browsers.

[–] dragunovua@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

well, switch to mozilla at this point

[–] LuckyShot365@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Its almost like some kind of monopoly when the same company owns the browser that you use to search the internet to find a YouTube video to watch.

Can you imagine the outrage if the power company was able to tell your TV how loud your cable comercials should be?

[–] Mingyao_13@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I have revealed my next step in war on google, by ignoring it and switch to firefox

[–] terminalbungus@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Looks like it's time to switch browsers...

[–] Variaxocellus@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I was entertaining setting up a PiHole, now I have no excuse

[–] wakka55@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Honestly, they're going to easily win this war. Against the average dumbass who uses a computer. Against me, a hacker, god no. I will get around this very easily. But I'm under no illusions that the average computer user is a dumb fuck who will slurp down a steady stream of ads from their tech overlords as their brain melts.

https://github.com/dhowe/AdNauseam/wiki/Install-AdNauseam-on-Chromium-based-browsers#install-adnauseam

Not only am I not clicking on your ads, they're being displayed into the void. So, in summary, eat shit google.

[–] Vinterblot@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

We're clearly hitting the stage where Google deems itself an untouchable giant who can do whatever they please. They wouldn't be the first giant falling over their hubris.

[–] seanmark12@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I know opera is chromium based will that also affect it

[–] johnnyscumbag2000@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Why is youtube not public service at this point? Just like we have a national library that showcases media in print for free... we should get with the times and host videos for free as well.

A lot of educational information can be found on YouTube. Maybe we should take some of that and create a public video hosting service before youtube implodes.

Edit: Just for reference. The Library of Congress hosts every tweet that's ever been made. Anything you've ever said on twitter is stored on their servers. I think giving them the ability to host videos is not so far fetched.

Firefox or bust

[–] RedshiftWarp@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

using chrome is like walking around New York city with your social security # on your t-shirt.

Google collects all this shits. Don't let them play with your doodoo and build a genetic profile off it in some secret lab. So they can better infer your future browsing and purchasing habits in order to facilitate psychological-trojan horse ads that DiCaprio your gray matter.

They've become so integrated and powerful that Governments licking their lips rubbing hands together.

[–] rtds98@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

eh, given the pervasiveness of the search engine, they'll get away with this.

most people don't even know what a browser is, what browser they are using and that they can even use ad-blockers.

[–] Own-Cupcake7586@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Firefox is one of the few non-chromium-based browsers left. Thank goodness they held out when everybody else jumped ship (looking at you, Opera). It’s time to give them a download.

The internet should be freedom, and Firefox knows it.

In other news, I give it 2 weeks until vivaldi and opera to have their own addon store.

[–] Muffin-Sprinkles@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I really hate this push to have ads everywhere. I havnt seen ads in long time.

I wonder how these big tech compaines that rely mostly on selling ads will do in the next 10-20 years.

[–] Pkittens@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Will this necessarily impact all chromium browsers?

[–] anilexis@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Firefox. It has adblock on mobile and perfectly syncs with desktop

[–] WingedBunny1@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Glad Im using Firefox for basically as long as it exists. Always hated chrome, even switched to Firefox on my phone a few years ago.

[–] Ed96win@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

this is legit dictatorship

[–] hollow_bagatelle@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd we're back on firefox. Thanks for making it an easy decision, google.

[–] readMyFlow@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I reveal my war on Google : firefox.

[–] NTRedmage@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Laughs in Firefox

[–] AHHHHHH2105@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I don’t get why this is such a big deal. Creators need support. If you don’t want ads, either suck it up, or subscribe to premium. This benefits the creators, the most important people on the website.

[–] blowfish1717@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

About to switch to edge or FF. Just need a small push from chrome.

[–] powercow@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

been a chrome fan since chrome came out. I liked FF but habit kept me on chrome.. until they announced the upcoming extension updates, combined with the youtube nonsense, and the fact that ublock works better with firefox than chrome.. they finally pushed me out. And im perfectly happy with firefox.

One of the things that bugs me a bit, google was the one who first started the entire, lets get rid of the annoying ads thing. The net was getting a bit nuts with noisy and moving ads and google came out and did the text ad thing. I tend to give them exceptions in my ad blockers because i only want to block that which annoys me. So instead of keeping me on their product while making exceptions for their ads, they pushed me to another product.

[–] Hyperion1144@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Why the fuck did so many seem to stop using Firefox in the damn first place???

Chrome has been like a cult for years now.

[–] JAYKEBAB@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Everyone that used chrome for all this time gave them all this power. It's not as easy as just installing a different browser when almost all browsers are just chrome clones. Soon Google will be able to disable entire sites depending on your browser and you won't be able to to argue competition because opera and Microsoft are alternatives though just clones....

YouTube is a dystopian nightmare without adblock. Especially mobile versions. I had a 3/4 page dominos advert and the top quarter of my screen was the video. 2 unskippable adverts before my 3 minute video started. Then another advert inserted randomly into the middle of the video.

I genuinely don't know how anybody uses YouTube without adblock. Even paying for YouTube premium is a lesser experience than an adblock provides.

[–] Cold-Lynx575@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

With just a little more effort - they can probably make it unusable.

[–] No_Personality6685@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Already switched to Firefox after being a 10 year user of Chrome.

[–] TeciorRibbon@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Now if only Firefox had the same compatibility as Chrome. Half our websites don't look or work properly on Fox, and it's not down to bad implementation
