I'll be the first to say that everyone on the planet should play at least one mainline title of assassin's creed, excluding the first one. If it were up to me I would have everyone play AC3 because it's what brought me into the series.

Off the top of my head..

  • GTA5

  • Skyrim

  • Fallout: New Vegas

  • The Last of Us: Part 1

  • Half Life 2

  • Portal 2

IMO they are basically flawless and I wouldn't change a thing. Superb experience from start to finish and were literally game changing for the industry.

That last point maybe not so much compared to Fallout 3 as it came first but over all I feel New Vegas was the better, more refined and polished release. Love them both but gotta say I prefer the later

There are a very limited number of games that would interest someone and their mother.

More because if you're old enough to be playing games, your mother would be into retro NES classics.

On that note... Super Mario Bros 3.

MGS 2. The messages and themes were so ahead of its time and are slapping hard now in the age of social media and AI. The game itself had to be delayed in 2001 for a few months because the final boss fight took place on the twin towers. It subverted so many expectations till the end, leaving us not knowing what to believe. It even spoke about memes before most of us even knew what that word meant.

The gameplay is incredible too. Tactical with solid mechanics. Was absurdly detailed to the levels of red dead 2, during the age of ps2. For example, ice would melt in real time. Plus it cements snake as one of the coolest characters ever.

God of war 2018 and ragnarok.

But it will impact you more if you know the original game stories.

I’m picking games that anyone can pick up and play. Nothing too complicated.

  • Tetris: The quintessential puzzle game.
  • Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World: 2D platforming perfection.
  • Zelda Link to the Past: Arguably best game in the series.

A masterpiece... Half-Life and Metal Gear Solid has been mentioned already. I will go with my own unique title.

Ikaruga - Masterpiecie of a level design. Shoot'em up, with a polarization mechanic, which allows you to change your shield and shot colour. This simple mechanic was pushed to its limits in terms of ingenuity. Devs also knew how players can master the game and whenever you think you mastered a particular section it surprises you with more enemies to score. Obtaining the highest rank is very challenging. A 30 minute game with infinite replay value.

[–] pickledradish123@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Larian games, i havent played BG3 yet so i can’t vouch for it but Divinity 2 is one of the best RPGs I’ve played if not the best.

[–] Wolf-Legion@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Kenshi. Looks old as hell, but i do like a 60+ hr playthrough each year, also with mods in Skyrim it has to be played as well

[–] IAmZeeb1337@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Baldur's Gate 1, 2 and 3.

In that order.

[–] Neither_Adeptness579@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Myst

That game shaped the puzzle/adventure genre in a way that no other game could. The game got several remasters, but the core gameplay has stayed the same for nearly 30 years.

The latest edition has some stunning graphics and allows for VR play. There really is nothing quite like a Cyan Worlds game.

[–] PregnantGoku1312@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Outer Wilds, and Road 96.
