I'd like some kind of cinematic or lore dump to remind you of what all you have done so far and where you are in the story if you haven't played for a bit. I pick up a game I haven't played in forever and am always a bit confused.
So I just started playing for honor and it has a UI setting that clears all “new” gear notifications for you don’t have to go through every character menu and find them all. Amazing setting that I can’t believe isn’t more common.
Why every game doesn't have a save anywhere feature, especially JRPGs, still boggles my mind.
Circular deadzones and options.
Having a fairly reusable revive mechanic in co-op games. Nothing like watching the game you’re supposed to be playing.
UHD support... DS:Remaster has it, but Elden ring doesn't. And lot of games don't support it/are buggy on it.
A complete and working game... as it used to be...
Click to toggle, hold to hold on controls. Halo MCC did it with aim on PC and it was great.
Context communication options. If you're unfamiliar, I'm talking about Apex Legends or Overwatch 2 where you can ping enemies or hold down the ping to give contextual communications like "defend here, group up here, watch this area, etc". If I'm in a SBMM game I only want to be able to communicate this way.
Additionally, and oppositely, I greatly miss all voice-chat and dedicated servers. Being able to return to the same server with the same players every day and just shooting the shit while playing the game unranked is something I really miss from the past. SBMM is fine, but it has completely removed the social element in video games.
Adjusting the volume before a single cutscene or being forced into the game
Announcing DLC before the core game has been patched to a playable state.
toggle key to switch between FPS and 3PS.
consoles should be sold on the merits of the console, not exclusive titles. exclusive titles shouldn't exist and all MP games should be cross play with the exception of some games literally just being too big for consoles so they're only on PC.
and this is ignoring industry issues like garbage DRM and lack of private servers after a games service expires from the original publisher.
- Pausing and skipping cutscenes
- Manual hard saves
- Story mission/chapter replays (or at least boss fight replays)
- Customisable controls
- Accessibility options (including difficulty modifiers)
- Balanced difficulty levels (Good example being Bayonetta 1 where Very Easy and Easy were a breeze, but then Normal was just TOO much of a difficult jump. Or there's Divinity Original Sin 2, which is still really difficult on easier modes.)
I know Borderlands 3 and Tina's Wonderlands weren't the most loved entries in the Borderlands universe, but I was so pleased that they fixed the level scaling so any players can play together. I hated how the earlier games would just have everything scaled to the strongest player and everyone else better have something close or you're SOL. Now if my kid is having a hard time with a boss, I can jump in with my level 20 character and get level 20 enemies, or same with my level 40 character, whether she's level 5 or level 40 herself.
Accessibility controls that automate common features - vampire survivors for example was very nice for disabled gamers and now more shmups are adding auto aim and fire. If i’m gonna be holding down a button for hours anyway, you can automate it
I think my favourite feature recently has been three easy Return to Monkey Island starts, with a quick "do you want a reminder of where you're up to?" As a time of older gamer, I love this feature!
Player model and shadows in FPS games. The games that do it are always more immersive because you feel like an actual entity in the game world rather than a floating pair of arms.
Releasing fully feature complete games. I'm tired of seeing games that are a broken mess at release.
