For me this is the crucial moment when Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2, finds out he has TB... What about you?

Got an anime moment in God Eater 3. Wherein me and my younger brother was playing coop on the final mission and everyone including him was out of endurance.

I was the only person standing. Then as I was struggling just to survive. I saw the Engage button. Then it was like at that exact moment.

I was the Main Character. Everyone was looking at me to win it. To save phym.

That entire moment. Was seriously the best and most chilling moment for me.

The beginning of Horizon Zero Dawn, the montage where young Aloy jumps from one tree to another and "turns" into adult Aloy, along with the hauntingly beautiful soundtrack. I'm a 39 year old horror loving death metal fan but this moment made me tear up. I can't explain it.

Many many years earlier - that moment in FF7, plus the later sequence when we learn the truth about Cloud.

Last but not least the entire Grigori fight in Dragon's Dogma.

For some reason Lee’s fate in the first Walking Dead game still fucks me up.

I'm going to go with a recent one: Baldur's Gate 3

Trying to keep this mostly spoiler free.

Raphael the devil shows up very early offering a solution. Given that he's a devil it's obviously not a good idea to trust him. He keeps showing up though and if anything more smug in each encounter.

Follow the right path though and you do learn what he's actually after, and >!you can break into his house IN HELL to steal his shit. At which point he shows up to stop you and a musical number with lyrics starts and the smug bastard starts singing his own banger boss music like a Disney villain while he tries to murder you. Great quest line and an awesome conclusion for what's ultimately just a side villain.!<

Outer Wilds, many things in this game, not just the ending. Play it!

"Had to be me. Someone else might have got it wrong"

The ending in "Another world" (yes, I'm that old)

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident has a few good moments.

The Nuke in COD (I had a few nightmares from this one)

RDR2 the horse

Witcher 3 the Baron's quest

Talos Principle’s ending.

!As you slowly uncover the “where/what/why” as to what’s going on, and you finally defy the coding through the end game’s final act of free-will and the entire game transitions to a cutscene of you waking up to a decayed, ancient-human world. The feeling of “I am the only one left and I carry the entire knowledge of humanity on my shoulders” was just a surreal moment, I actually shed a tear. (Talos Principle 2 talk ahead) Now, of course, way more is expanded in Talos Principle 2 where you’re not the only AI to exist as humanity is essentially being carried on by many other androids just like you. I have yet to play it and I’m very excited to, but that feeling at the end of the first game…. Damn…!<

Warframe - the War Within

Second place, also Warframe, the Man in the Wall.

Medal of Honor, D-Day level. . . When the ramp drops and you see the absolute hell of Normandy. . . That game and Brothers in Arms need remakes

Elden Ring when you see Liurnia of the Lakes for the first time after beating Margit. It is one of the most beautiful scenes in gaming history and I probably stood there for 10 minutes just looking around.

First time playing COD4, the freight ship mission. That mission was the first time I really witnessed the graphics of that generation. The rain effects, Price lighting his cigar, the whole atmosphere. It was unlike anything seen in an FPS game up to that point.

[–] Renolber@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

THEY’RE EVERYWHERE!

Sierra Delta, repeat!

I’m looking at fighter jets over I-95! How the hell did they get through?!

There are lot of phenomenal moments in gaming, but there was something so surreal seeing the mainland United States being invaded from a foreign military power.

Seeing the neighborhoods, and even Washington in flames… to see the “untouchable,” crumbling before you.

Albeit a bit unrealistic and in a fictional setting, the dramatization of such a scenario was perfectly executed. It really felt… real.

That’s when media is at its best. When it evokes a fundamental emotional response. There are people who aren’t even American who played that campaign, and were equally perplexed with their minds saying “No fucking way.”

[–] Cyberpunkedout@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Joel…. Highly anticipated for me and the BOOM! At that point exactly I stopped playing for about 6 months smh. Still traumatized

Mine was when BF3 came out. I had played BF2 for a long time and when I came out of the train station place and the first thing I saw was a building coming down because someone blew it up. That was the first time I had seen destruction like that in a game. I was in awe and still am.

Activating the Slaughter Mechanic in Ghost of Tsushima for the first time and getting the "Ghost Stance" to use upon your enemies.

First off, the mission had no clouds, and it immediately thundered the second I activated the ability. Second, seeing the horrified faces of the Mongols that saw their Leader get decapitated that swiftly in one swipe of the blade showed them "You fucked around for far too long. Now you are all gonna fucking find out"

Finding out Arthur had TB for me was a gamechanger. I was trying to 100% as much as I could while going through the story. When I hit that part and felt comfortable enough to do so, I got that cutscene and slowly watched as my character model started to look more and more sick. Eventually, I felt so much guilt that I just had to move on to John.

For me, though, the moment has to be the regenerator from RE4. The OG, remake is cool and all, but didn't give me the same fright from when I was 12.

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard when the dudes head gets split in half with a shovel

The ending eulogy in reach still give me chills.

Maybe it's the Catholic upbringing but crucifying a dude in Cyberpunk for TV ratings really got me, despite no longer being religious.

[–] PhantomMAG@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Made me cry twice, you won't get it if you haven't played Yakuza 0, but basically this guy protected this girl the entire game (70 hours) and gave up his love at the end to protect her https://youtu.be/GzHRzWzrwZY?si=nAYjXmPwLESposdW

The Siege of Yarikawa in Ghost of Tsushima. The game really made you feel like you were trapped in a village under siege, but that moment when you unlock the Ghost Stance and turn the tide of the battle still gives me goosebumps. Seeing the Mongols turn tail and run, Jin rallying the villagers, and regular non-samurai chasing a Mongol army out of their home was EPIC.

[–] ronniewhitedx@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Omori. The last 5% of the game. I refuse to spoil THIS game so please play it if you haven't gotten the chance.

[–] Logondo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The Smash Bros Ultimate trailer where they announce "EVERYONE IS HERE".

Like holy fucking shit. That just blew me away. I don't think anyone was expecting them to do that.

Might be stupid, but recently my wife and I played through It Takes Two.

Great game overall, but... that one scene. That poor elephant.. I've done a lot of horrible things in video games, but somehow that part nearly made me and my wife quit playing.

The first time anyone ever posted a Thargoid interdiction in Elite Dangerous. Up until that point, there were no “aliens” in the game. Devs dropped it in as a very rare event and when the community found out it was a haunting WTF moment. Video here-

Two big ones for me: The end if Darksiders 1, War's final line "No, not alone..." as the 3 other horsemen ride in the sky.

Final Fantasy XIV: "Light the way!"

[–] cffndncr@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Half Life 2 has a bunch for me:

Standing on the roof in Ravenholme, waiting for your ride out, and hearing the sound of leaping zombies screaming from every direction

The entire Assault on Nova Prospekt sequence with the Ant Lions

When you first get the super gravity gun

I also think the Doom reboot series has a bunch as well. The opening cinematic for Doom Eternal where he cocks the shotgun - superb.

[–] Lexinoz@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The ending/realization of Assassin's Creed 1.
It was such a big mindfuck for my young mind.

Also the "Would you kindly" from Bioshock.
