I don’t see nothin’ wrong with a little bump ‘n grind.

[–] BluePeriod_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (8 children)

What is a rug anyway? It seems like every pixel has some sort of weird “don’t worry about it” QC issue.

[–] Phact-Heckler@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Google like to hide easter eggs in their products. This is the easter egg this time around

With the Pixel 2 you mustn't update the camera app because that physically bricks the camera

Well yeah... that's what we thought they were, which is why it's worrying.

"Don't worry, that lump on your neck is just thyroid cancer"

[–] AnIdeaMan@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If it's too thin. Isn't the solution to make it slightly thicker?

[–] Tooluka@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Should have picked flush fit thyroid instead of the regular lump one. :)

[–] HarmlessSnack@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

“Not to worry, it’s quite treatable in most cases! Not yours, but most!”

[–] WhatCanIMakeToday@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (5 children)

“We forgot to take into account the thickness of components when trying to make the phone thinner for you.” [Google, basically]

[–] MCA2142@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

“Dany sort of forgot about the thickness.”

So I went and checked. That thing retails for €1100 around here. And I don't know about you guys, but when I buy a phone that costs that kinda money I expect a solid piece of hardware. Not something where the manufacturer decided to skimp out of rigidity because they were being cheap. Not because of some aesthetic choice, no this is just cheap.

And they expect these things to last 7 years? Yeah right.

[–] Regular_Ship2073@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’d buy an iPhone for that money tbh

[–] drmirage809@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I should add that I took the price of the 8 Pro here. As the Pro is the big shot flagship model here.

[–] karlzhao314@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

And they expect these things to last 7 years? Yeah right.

One of the possibilities I semi-unironically expressed was that Google is willing to promise 8 years of software updates because judging by their track record, there won't be any Pixel 8s left alive after year 5, which means there won't be any customers to complain when they break that promise.

[–] ZellZoy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Given Google's track record they'll just cancel the pixel line and say no more updates after year 2

So they were to cheap to put in a metal shield between components and screen.

[–] matt95110@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Pennies in quantities of millions adds up, but that is why you just up the price of the phone $5 and no one cares.

[–] tomtv90@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

They did that too, several times.

Has anyone actually seen these issues with their own eyes or are we just astroturfing? I have such a phone and the bumps are so small I didn't notice until I saw someone else's picture and knew what to look for. It's a non-issue unless your expectations are set by headlines.

[–] Nerdcoreh@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

you actually seen these issue and you ask if anybody actually seen these issues. the answer is you.

on the other hand if i buy a phone for that price range i kinda expect it to be bumpless.

[–] wicodly@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Excited to see the scathing YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook videos about the downfall of Android. JerryRigEverything, Milo, Carter, Linus, the whole lot. Spending 15+ minutes about how this is a disgrace and no one should buy this phone and any person that did is just dumb. I'm especially excited for Reddit reactions. 'Android's dead.' 'EU save us.' 'This is why Android fans are sheep.'

[–] Klaus0225@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Bless your heart.

[–] skepticalfaggo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What world do you live in lol

[–] Interesting_Ad_4781@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The bumps are free

[–] PCGT3@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Studded for your pleasure. Finger massage bumps may increase over time. - Google

It doubles as a vibrator. Just have your SO call you and you're having VR sex. -Someone at Google

[–] TandemSegue@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (12 children)

I hope it doesn’t cause the display to Pixel8

[–] DrPhrawg@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Underrated comment right here.

I bet it’s oddly pleasing to run your fingertips across the screen…

If a phone is going to cost a premium then it needs to be premium and not poorly quality controlled. This is just poor design, QA, and response to avoid having to do anything about it.

[–] Jontun189@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh thank God, I thought they were components pushing into the OLED pa- wait a second.

Just stick with the services google provide, not the devices they sell. Screen issues are not new and many people had black screens on Pixel 5A and 6, phone is basically useless after a year.

Remember when they had those Pixel vs iPhone ads on YouTube? LOL.

Guess Siri can say that the iPhone is “bump-less.”

Honestly I'm done with pixels after the 6. I loved the 4 and the 5, but they got rid of the fingerprint scanner in lieu of the screen reader version which fucking sucks. Among other complaints (including shorter battery life and increased charge times... like wtf?!) Google services in general just continue eroding.

[–] -WallyWest-@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The 4 didn't had any Fingerprints scanners.

🤦 sounds like a Apple statement what a dick move google

[–] ZarafFaraz@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Google needs to stick to what it's good at.

[–] JustJoe73@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (15 children)

"Components pushing into display panel" was the answer for white blobs on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite LTE. Yes, old POS with disaster engineering, had the screen replaced in warranty and white blobs were there again soon.

It's a fail. Big time fail.

We need a reasonable Android phone with clear Android OS and Google is very good at this. Well... was. Please don't mess this thing up, just two big companies having 98% of the market is extremely expensive for users.

Turns out that after reading reviews and specs and deciding to go with a Pixel 7 Pro over an 8, it was the right choice.

[–] sabby1225@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is this on the regular or pro version, or both?

I loved my Pixel 2 and my 4a.

Bought a pixel 6, upgraded to pixel 7, wife bought a 7.

Worst phones I have ever had. By far. So many issues. All the time. Boot looping. Random shutdowns. Signal issues (sometimes my phone had nothing, no LTE no cellular, and I was standing with a group of ~100 people who had no issues. Had some wifi issues for a long time where it just didn't let me connect. Certain specific apps and games have sound issues, but pulling up a video on YouTube with the exact same things shows no problems with the speakers. I can't even remember all the problems.

Wife has gotten her Pixel 7 replaced THREE TIMES, all because it wasn't reading her SIM. I don't know how many SIM cards we've been through. Not being able to make an emergency family phonecall because your phone is trash is the last straw. Never buying a Google phone again, and I highly recommend you all stay away from it too.

This headline did make me laugh though. Sucks that Google phones have fallen this far.

[–] gjonezin@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I love the 7 Pro. But, agree the signal is usually weaker than others. I don't need 100 different camera features. I need signal to get data,.texts, and phone calls. Do those key features well before all the bs. Verizon is sending me a signal booster to the house in the middle.of the city burbs. But, it shouldn't be like this.

Owned various Nexus phones and Pixel 3a and 4a and all worked well but based on what I’ve heard about the newer ones I think I’ll go Samsung S23 next.

[–] gjonezin@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Stop making it thinner then. It doesn't need to be. We are trying to hold the phone and type on this tiny screen. Not everyone has small petite hands.
