I have an Apple TV 4K 1st generation and I updated to TV OS 17 in late September/Early October - either way I am on 17.1 now.

It has got to be the worst update I’ve seen. Every app stalls at random times and I need to restart the whole unit just to access an app cleanly. Slow loading, time outs, strange errors about Netflix, prime, YouTube, max, etc stating “xyz app is not available, please try again later.” I’ve also gotten “there is not enough space to download this app” multiple times when I know there is more than enough room - I have sub 15 apps loaded which amounts to ~3 GB at most out of a supposed 32 GB.

Anyway, long story long - anyone else experience these issues only after updating to TV OS 17? I never had this issue when in TV OS 16 and down.

Sincerely,

A potential Roku buyer…..

You space problem is due to cache being full. Reset it and turn off downloading for the screen savers. The cache should clear it self but sometimes it does not.

I would do a factory reset a 1st gen 4K had a pretty powerful chip. The tvOS might have gotten corrupted. It happened to one of mine with a certain app and once I did the reset it worked fine again no issues to this day.

Reset that thing and chill.

No. Enjoy Roku. You’ll never have another problem.

Can’t say I’ve seen anything like this while using my ATV4K 1st Gen since being on tvOS 17.

All I can think of doing is make sure all relevant apps have the latest updates and possibly as a last resort do a full reset and start a fresh is if it’s new.

Weird. I haven't seen those issues on any of my 4k Apple TVs... Maybe you need a reset or something.

Haven’t seen any of those issues on my 1st gen 4K. Daft question but have you tried a factory reset? It’s the first thing Apple support will probably recommend. I’ve had AppleTV boxes since they were first launched though and never had an issue with them.

Hey there, all these issues sound like you’re out of storage on the device, or that the devices thinks it is and isn’t managing resources properly. You can probably resolve all these issues if you erase the device and set it back up. With “one home-screen” it’ll download your apps again. You’ll have to sign back in, but I bet it solves your issues 100%.

I have the same model as you and the device is running really well. Probably worth a shot!

i had problems with prime, netflix and apple tv apps stalling after installing tvos 17. i did a system reset wiping everything and reinstalled from scratch. took me maybe 20 minutes, no problems anymore since then.

I also have problems with os, laggy, stuttering, crashing apps. But I plan to buy the next generation because of hdr10+ support.

Roku is even worse. You are better off with a new Apple TV.
