I just checked their website, and while yes, they do have gorgeous cases, I was genuinely mindblown to see their average is between $75 and $120.

I have a high income so it's genuinely not about money, I just don't see how creating a case can be so expensive?

It is the exclusivity that matters. I want people to know I have the means to afford a Casetify case.

jk, I’ve never heard of that brand. I don’t even use a case.

[–] seira87@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Amazon - $10-30 for a case, some are better than others, some are the same thing you pay those high prices for. I find it hilarious that people spend so much money on a case.

In my opinion Casetify is a trend. A lot of celebs have them and people follow suit.

I was at Best Buy bought a case a few years ago 45 bucks and then went to Thailand it’s going for 2.40 cents the one in Thailand lasted longer

[–] antaresiv@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

There’s always a sucker

[–] CoverBoring2374@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The evangelism collar sold out like hot cakes someone is biting them lol. I think people also treat them as like collecting as they may be worth someone I think based on the collars they’ve been doing

Cost and worth are very different things. I recently bought my first Casetify case ever - I wanted a clear case to show the new natural titanium colour - But must come with a cool design (which I found in their catalogue) instead of the usual boring plain clear - And must have MagSafe. I did a search on the internet all day and there really was nothing that would come close to that balance of quality - design - functionality that they offered, so I was willing to pay for it.

Yes I was one of those who used to laugh at their obnoxious price tags while rocking a $10 case without Apple Care and that was fine too. So it really depends on what you’re after and whether you’re willing/able to pay - Not so much the actual cost of making the case. Market price is all about demand/supply :)

My real wood and resin case from carved only costs $50 some dollars and they’re all 100% totally unique and BEAUTIFUL!

[–] autumn_leaves9@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I was curious at first but then overnight every big influencer started promoting Casetify so I knew it had to be a scam.

[–] goochiefromwish@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I do not spend that much money on cases. I have an off brand casetify. It’s a mosnovo and it has been serving me very well since I got my phone in August

[–] bluegreenie99@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Apple fans generally have a lot more money to spend

[–] compguy96@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

People actually pay $1000 for Apple iPhones?

Everyone sees the value of objects differently.

[–] SpanishLover_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yet another reason I go caseless…

[–] Status_Seaweed_1917@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Every time I go on Casetify I get sticker shock. I just got an Otterbox case instead.

[–] hammertime2009@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Same. I cringe when I spend $50 for a speck case but they are pretty good and grippy. Still $50 for a thin piece of molded plastic and rubber is dumb. Sometimes I can find a $10-15 case on Amazon but sometimes takes 3,4 purchases/returns before I find a decent one.

Have you seen how much apple chargers for their cases?

I bought one in the past for my Iphone 12 pmax(around 60 bucks) not worth it to me, sure it's pretty protective but it's also very bulky also shipping took close to a month

[–] flyfishone@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It’s pure profit

[–] anhuys@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I bought one 2 years ago, a magsafe one with the exact design and colors I wanted. €80 at the time and that was worth it to me, it saved my phone from many falls and just now after two years started wearing down. I wouldn't have done it if it weren't for the customization, and they seem to have increased their prices quite a bit... I wanted to get the same case again but I stuck to an otterbox.

I have ☺️ I really enjoyed the design but the side separated within six months - twice. So now I am not buying them again. Way too expensive for that quality issue. That said, really enjoyed the design.

[–] pwnedkiller@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I don’t think they look that nice it’s just a glorified clear case that is customizable

[–] robottoe@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Team no case here.

Over the past 15 years, starting to hate cases recently. Definitely raised more eyebrows than those with $100 cases.

[–] nebulamoons@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

they’re not even that great quality for being so expensive

Ideal of Sweden is great for well made fashionable statement cases for women and some men 💜

[–] DeeYumTofu@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

People don’t buy casetify cases because they are good cases, they buy them because they like the design. The designer markup is an industry I never thought would enter the case market but here we are.

[–] Empty-Swing@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I'm blown away because their cases are not anything spectacular, they're plastic printed cases, and I'm almost 100% they have a knockoff they produce on Amazon called Mosnovo because it's the same print and style exactly.

Also, the prints scratch off on Casetify.

I think it's more a thing for kids that are into labels tbh. My niece is 15 and she uses them.

They realized that the pricing they use for official colabs- hiking the price to cover the cost- can be used on any case they make because people eat them up. Genuinely, the metal cases (like the Mandi Beskar ingot case) give you the quality for the money. The rest are not a good idea lol

[–] fredriv_2020@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I mean, your already paying $1,100 for a phone, what's another 10% to add personality?

[–] vmbient@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I was willing to spend $60 on a dbrand ghost case, but only because they're the only ones that promise a replacement if your case gets yellow (which has happened to literally every transparent case I owned).

The evangelion collab cases are pretty cool design wise but the price is way too steep for a normal case. As for the non brand ones I feel like they're a waste of money, you could probably get a similar design on aliexpress.

[–] QXPZ@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I have a Casetify Impact case in matte black for iPhone 15 Pro that I'm no longer using. Non magsafe version. Happy to sell at half price if anyone is interested. Just DM me.

[–] _phesta@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

These companies are very good at marketing mass produced cases they buy in bulk from china. They can essentially sell one case and pay off a bulk order of 100+ if we’re going by Alibaba pricing for casetify clones.

[–] uptimefordays@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Never heard of Casetify, their cases are ugly and bulky. What’s the appeal? Also $100 is pretty close to Apple Care+ pricing and Casetify won’t even replace your battery.

[–] _altonio_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That’s actually insane, I find a 10-20$ clear case with good reviews. The cost of making them would never exceed that much

[–] tab5chom5e@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I like that they have biodegradable cases and I pay the premium for that. But you can get them from Etsy stores like mexiburg.com much cheaper and they have cool designs as well.

[–] Double-Buy-564@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Casely is the BEST. Their cases are around $50 for the bold style (which is really sturdy) but they do sales all the time so you can get one 40-50% off or BOGO. I love them bc you still get a pretty phone case but it isn’t so ridiculously expensive

[–] AverageGuy16@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Idk about iPhones but I got their MacBook case and it’s actually really well built shouts out to them.

[–] Davarey@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I have rhinoshield. Real question is why some people have a 2€ case on a 1200€ phone

[–] SirChurros@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

People pay $1k+ for a phone when there are cheaper options that largely function the same. Shouldn’t be surprising that it’s the same for cases.

[–] Kezhaya@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I payed 40$ once for a Casetify case for my IPhone XR (although I think I had like a 10$ discount for being the first purchase or smth). I don’t know what the hell happened between that and now, they are sooo expensive.

It’s not surprising at all! And it makes perfect sense. I’ll tell you why.

tl;dr……they have to cover the high cost for their advertising budget while still making a profit margin.

Casetify pays celebrities like Olivia Rodrigo to appear on their advertisements. Then they pay money to plaster those advertisements all over NYC. That can make it quite expensive to turn a profit on a piece of molded plastic…. …on top of the standard costs of doing business.

[–] Jujulabee@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Don't shoot me but I just bought a Casetify for my iPhone 15 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤣

I literally had never heard of the brand until I started googling for cases I liked when I had ordered the phone. I knew nothing about its purported status or what social media person had it and frankly even when going through their website I have never heard and/or could care less about their co-branding or licensed stuff.

I read reviews and the case actually did its job of protecting the iPhone which was very important to me as I would not have gotten a case based only on its style.

I can afford the cost but I am actually pretty frugal as I am replacing a six year old iPhoneX which has the same case I bought for it six years ago. I am only replacing the iPhone because it won't upgrade the iOS and also battery is starting to degrade so I thought why not.

Based on the time I will own the iPhone 15, the Casetify will cost me about $20 a year - which is a small sum for something that will give me a slight bit of aesthetic pleasure every day.

FWIW, my design is Art Deco inspired and I can't imagine a person thinking that OMG that is a high status case when I use my phone 🤣🤣

[–] RipInPepz@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I "splurged" this year for a caudabe, which i love, and that was only $40. Normally go with spigen. Casetify is a scam for people with more money that brains.

Not specifically Casetify related, but I have noticed the price point for basically all cases in-stores now is $50 and most of them are dogshit. Companies are real bold charging fifty bucks and more for a case that cost them a dollar or two, landed.

Wow that’s crazy, I didn’t know they were that much $30-40 max for their cases 😂🤦🏼‍♂️

[–] RedKomrad@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

“A fool and his money are soon parted.” Abraham Lincoln, maybe.

[–] Lazy_pig805@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

There's a Casetify store at the mall that I frequent. It always has a line on the weekends to get in. And people aren't just browsing either. They're buying stuff.

[–] Fr0stbite37@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I REALLY like the street fighter design but 72 is ridic. I'll stick with my spigen and put stickers on it. Maybe

[–] abbakusx3@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You can feel the designs on the case when you run your fingers over it.. they didn’t put any coatings to protect it. They chip easily. And boarder comes apart from the back. I ordered a case and they sent me one all scratched and defective.. they did fix this but they literally sent me 2 more messed up cases before the 4th one was okayish.. their shipping is long so this took like 3 months before finally getting an acceptable case.. it shouldn’t take 3 cases before you get a scratch free one imo.. also I rotate cases a lot and drop my phone a lot. Casetify was the only case where my screen cracked..

[–] greatauror28@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’ve been using Spigen cases since getting my first iPhone which is an iPhone 4 and I’ve been fine.

When I got my iP12PM three years ago I went fine and dandy and bought the $69CAD Apple clear case. Until the time I sold it which was last month it never yellowed.
