I just checked their website, and while yes, they do have gorgeous cases, I was genuinely mindblown to see their average is between $75 and $120.

I have a high income so it's genuinely not about money, I just don't see how creating a case can be so expensive?

Otterbox is the most expensive case I’ve ever bought…

But considering their reputation and the fragility of modern iPhones, I need it.

Going beyond $40 seems a bit ridiculous though

[–] AttentionKmartJopper@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I really like some of their designs so I make the splurge. That said, I have not paid more than 62 dollars for one, which is steep, yes, but just saying that the simpler builds are in that range, e.g the ones without camera covers and overdesigned bumpers.

[–] pcweber111@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Marketing. That's all it is. Just upscale marketing of their product. Price it expensive and many will assume it's more valuable or somehow "better". I get bored with phone cases and cycle through too many to pay that, much for one. 60 bucks is the most I would spend and even then it better be a neat case.

[–] CycloneMonkey@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yikes, I didn't realize they were that much.

I paid $60 for the leather 8-bit Pikachu  Watch strap and I feel like it was worth every penny (though, I look at the yellow now and it seems to have lost its luster).

I really wanted that Pokeball AirPods Pro case but it sold out too quickly.

[–] Chrifills02@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I’ve had two and both of them separate at the seams and fall apart. Never again

[–] Total_Persimmon_4726@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I looked at Casetify Then I went to GoGase Got four cases for the price I would have paid For one case on casetify And they're basically the same thing Plus I love the customization on GoCase ☺️

[–] BNR_@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Because of the brand, exclusivity, quality perhaps? 🤷🏻‍♂️ It’s like how ladies like to spend their cash on signature bags.

[–] one_and_done0427@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I did, my kid wanted one for Xmas. To make things worse, they charged my foreign transaction fee smh

[–] 80sBaby_82@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I’ve bought their cases before because I liked a particular design but they did not use to cost that much! I opted for a Speck case for my 15

[–] salloumk@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Somehow they sell a lot of cases. Baffling, I know. Funny thing is their cases aren't even that nice IMO.

[–] OXRoblox@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yes they do, Casetify is all about brand collabs or Hongkongers supporting a local business, other than that you probably wont find a single soul using them for the purpose of actually protecting their phone

[–] gatorglaze@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Hell no, so many Casetify cases I like but I’m so damn picky with my phone cases. I end up buying Spigen cases and putting decal stickers on them. Rocking a Spigen MagSafe slim case with gengar on the back of it

[–] vMambaaa@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

i paid $70 for my pitaka case because it’s the closest thing to a caseless phone that i’ve found. worth it to me.

[–] gordito_gr@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I mean, they pay for those overpriced original apple cases, that's more absurd to me

[–] asyrin25@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

The cost of making a thing sets the minimum price.

The actual price is set by demand.

If you make a thing that costs $3 to make and can sell 4 of them at $6 or 3 of them at $9, you sell them for $9.

Presumably, yes, people are paying this much for the cases so that’s why they cost so much.

[–] YahonMaizosz@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Social status..

All of their cases have big obnoxious “Casetify” on the camera border, perfect for material conscious people to flaunt them.

[–] Neptune502@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

They have a lot of official Collabs with popular Brands and i gonna guess one of the Reason why it is so high are Licensing Fees.

The iPhone accessories market has gone nuts in the last few years. It’s becoming normalised for a completely unremarkable case to cost as much as a budget android phone which is just insane.

People fall for the marketing lines like “military grade” and “the same material used in riot shields” when they are buying at most a couple of dollars worth of plastic/rubber/silicon pressed over an iPhone mould. There are plenty of good cheaper options though so just go for those

I will pay $90 for a Bullstrap leather case because the leather is high quality and they have a fantastic warranty.

Otherwise, I can’t imagine spending that much.

[–] BlueGazeebo@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I have 4 of their cases for the iPhone 15. I paid less than $6 for each one lol

[–] Taitonymous@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I love their designs, but I also don’t see spending that much on a case. I bought a mous case for 55€ and that is about the highest I will go.

I also haven’t heard good things about their shipping times and support. When spending so much for a case I would expect it to be delivered fast and to get a quick and helpful answer when a problem arises, I don’t think you will get that service with Casetify.

[–] mehdifromthe6@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Don't know neither.

A Spigen at $12 from Amazon is more than enough.

[–] CDSnipez@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

They used to be like $40-60 just a few years ago and I had a couple but now they’re literally nearly $100 for any case and I can’t justify spending $100 on a case that isn’t even that nice and just has a cute design on it

[–] Wrycalin@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I was willing to pay $23 (they are more expensive in the US, but in Romania they are cheaper) for my brand new Speck clear case, because they are guaranteed to never yellow and they are very protective.

But I would never pay more than $40 for a case.

[–] osamaali85@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yes mine is

[–] ILuvCrabRangoon@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Never heard of them. Looked them up. Find them to be gaudy and overpriced.

[–] The-1-U-Didnt-Know@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Not being paid by the company but I’ll back a mous case every day of the weeek

[–] therealPaulPlay@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Just got a customized Rhinoshield case from an artist that I like and it cost I think 60$ but 100 or even 120 is absolutely ridiculous. Have been using Spigen cases for most of the years and they held up really well

[–] paul-cus@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

They’re really unique. You have to pay for that.

[–] galaxyd1ngo@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I did reluctantly buy one for my 15 pro despite the price increase after having them for my 12 pro. My issue is that I want magsafe AND a cool, fun design and I couldn’t find anything else

[–] dhrandy@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

You bought an expensive phone and you’re worried about an expensive case?

[–] Glittering_Fig6468@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I have bought two of their cases and it’s not worth it. I’ve bought the same $18 case from Amazon for four phones now and it’s outlasted

[–] yigo1337@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

bruh just get a 3 dollar silicone case and youll be fine. i even bought 5 different colours.

[–] chorong761@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Not sure about others, but at least I do for all my phones

[–] lordnothingimportant@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I prefer Casely

[–] Charles_Mendel@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Wow didn’t know they were that much.

[–] nekosama15@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

It’s all marketing and licensing. The cases themselves are pretty average to low quantity.

[–] memorable_client@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Those cases are gross! Especially that logo stripe around the camera. Just gross. Aesthetic cancer.

[–] pangsiu@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I bought a One Piece collaboration with the soft corners. I love it. In the end of the day that’s still cheaper than paying for Apple Care

[–] littlebutcute@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I used to have one, but I got it in a good Black Friday deal for $40. My laptop case is still going strong.

[–] spadePerfect@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Holy shit yes. Thought the same when I checked their site, what the fuck? I won’t pay more than 30-40€ for a case

[–] repeatrep@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

i never looked into casetify due to me finding the branding around the camera to be ugly as hell, but i did check it when i saw the Evangelion collaboration.

the prices are fucking insane. i always thought that this brand is so big because they made cheap colourful cases with the consumer’s favourite brand on it

[–] MrsBenSolo1977@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

It’s the best, most protective case I’ve ever purchased and I’m protecting a $1300 device and the most expensive case I see on the site is $90.

[–] New_Significance1411@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

This is why I buy ₹300-400 cases (4-6 USD). They serve 90% of the purpose of 60 USD cases and if I spend around ₹1000-1200 (12-14USD) then I get exact same quality as the 80-100 USD cases.

Idk why but these companies really do rip off Americans in the name of their beloved iPhone.

[–] oceanwave4444@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I paid $65 for my Carved case... but they hold up really fucking well and I love the uniqueness of the wood slices. My old one lasted the entire lifespan of my Iphone 11 Pro (just upgraded this year)

[–] InfiniteHench@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

People will pay incredible amounts of money for fashion and statements.

See: fashion. Video game cosmetics. Houses.

Simple as that.

Paid 30 for my tech21 a few years back.

Drop my phone frequently, and it is Gucci still

[–] SurealGod@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yes.

If I've learned anything, you can sell anything at any price as long as you know your market, your demographic, and know how to bullshit.

[–] nolan816@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I may have spent 600 dollars on my phone but anything above 20 for a case is absurd

[–] greatauror28@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I’ve been using Spigen cases since getting my first iPhone which is an iPhone 4 and I’ve been fine.

When I got my iP12PM three years ago I went fine and dandy and bought the $69CAD Apple clear case. Until the time I sold it which was last month it never yellowed.
