I've bought an Apple Watch Series 6 LTE, and I've noticed that my screen-time has decreased a lot. I feel that I'm not that addicted to my iPhone.

I feel more free when I go for a walk or shopping wearing just my watch. Now I can left my iPhone at home.

What about you?

Nope. Not even a little. If anything it's actually increased it because I want to keep tabs on my activity numbers.

I didn’t get an LTE watch as I could not envision a reason to not bring my phone with me whenever I go some where.

[–] sfmclaughlin@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Definitely. Usually leave my phone in the office during lunch now or for late night walks. So nice knowing I can remain in touch if need be but be free from my phone for a bit.

[–] Juicecalculator@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

How far can you get from the phone? I didn’t think that the distance was that dar

How long can you run your series 6 watch on LTE for?

[–] Alternative-Corner29@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

7:40 pm and still at 67%

[–] Designer_Ad_3467@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

This. My watch dies so quick on LTE.

Yes, for sure, I’m leaving my phone at home as often as possible. I only really take it with me when I go to work or any trip that lasts longer than a few hours. Before, I was pretty much glued to my phone

[–] latefrontshuv@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

i have an LTE watch and i pay for service.. but i swear it never works without my phone/ wifi. it’s been over a year still can’t figure it out lol

[–] TheHoppyBrewer@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It takes a little bit for it to swap over. I was upset the first time I tried it, but didn’t realize this.

If that’s not the issue the watch is definitely defective and needs to be serviced/looked at.

[–] DCowboysCR@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yea sometimes if you’re not too far away from your iPhone the watch will keep going back and forth from LTE to Bluetooth connection with the iPhone.

When I leave my iPhone behind I turn Bluetooth in the watch off to speed up the transition to LTE

[–] AdamITRC@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Pixel Watch/Phone user here ... Nope, use the phone probably even more. The only reason for the watch is to track sleep, and wear when cycling in case of an emergency

[–] walruns@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Always thought it doesn’t worth, but after having a Ultra it has changed my mind. Love to go to groceries, to run, walks, without my phone, listening to music, podcasts.

[–] jamesknowsthis@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I’d be more inclined to leave my phone at home if Meta would release a WhatsApp Apple Watch app. I know there are third party apps, such as Watch Chat 2 but they all feel very clunky. Last part of the puzzle IMO

[–] Alternative-Corner29@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I see your point. Luckily me and my family use iMessage instead

[–] Richbluu22@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

No I’m always afraid I’ll want to snap a pic and I’m on socials all the time

[–] thiccAFjihyo@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Sorry to hear that.

Sounds like a miserable approach to life.

[–] Soundwave_irl@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I sadly can't use cellular on my cellular aw since apple doesn't allow to have different contracts for the phone and aw :/ The moment I put a different sim in the iphone the sim on the aw gets disabled

[–] monkeyofthefunk@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I leave my iPhone at home when I walk the dogs, go walking and if I go out during work. Even though the 15 Pro Max is lighter, it’s still a heavy beast.

[–] chrisdancy@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Addiction is thrown around far too loosely with cyborgs.

[–] Yvilkittyinspace@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I would say no. Plenty of things the watch can't do. Even though I have the cellular version of the watch, I don't pay for the service

[–] Koleckai@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

My LTE watch is not helping me reduce screen time. I actually never expected it to as it is a screen.

I basically use it as a health tracker and tool to remind me about things like standing up once in a while.

[–] robogobo@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

If I could use my Ultra alone I’d completely give up the phone. I really wish you could sync to an iPad instead of the phone.

[–] Nausky@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

The ultra finally gives us enough battery life to leave without our phones for the day, but it’s so limited. It just doesn’t work well enough unless all you need are texts and weather.

I always get strings of complaints about call quality. I thought getting a new watch + APP2s would fix some issues I was having before (with my old S5+APP1), but people still tell me I sound like shit. Lots of cutting out and interference.

[–] hotelyankee@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

yes. no doubt.

I leave my phone at home. If I’m home I’m on an iPad if I need to be online. My phone has become a base station for my watch.

[–] TheHoppyBrewer@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Which iPad do you use? I currently have a 12.9 Pro for work, but I feel it’s too big to use comfortably without a desk. Still great for travel though.

I’ve been looking at the iPad Mini to add to the set, but worried it might be too redundant.

[–] 49thDipper@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I bought an Air. My girlfriend has one so I got to fondle hers before I pulled the trigger. I am very happy with it. M1 iPad without the higher refresh rate and pro camera of the Pro’s. Zero regrets.

I have pondered the Mini also but if I all of a sudden needed an in-between size I would probably buy a max size phone. I do prefer the standard iPad size for web consumption though.

[–] flitcroft@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Not for me. I never even turned LTE on for my Ultra. The only time I used it when I first tried LTE about 5 years ago was while cycling, but I found that it was annoying to respond to texts without the screen, so I ended up canceling the service after a few months. It's not that hard to have a phone in my pocket and I like the ability to start Peloton workouts, change audio sources, reply to texts, watch TikTok, etc should the need arise.

Yes and no.

Work life? No. Unfortunately I need my phone everywhere I go. Emails, phone calls, texts, etc. While I could do it all on the Ultra, it feels clunky and is faster on my phone.

Vacation/off-time? Yes. I’ve recently bought a camera (R50) specifically so that I won’t feel the need for my phone since that’s what I mainly use my phone for during that time anyway.

I’m actively trying to reduce my phone usage though, and can see moving to smart watches completely in the future. The biggest daily obstacles right now that force me to bring a phone during off time:

  • Uber and Lyft can’t be ordered from the watch, only given updates after ordered from the phone. Ordering rides used to be supported, hopefully it will come back.

  • Apple CarPlay is not supported with just the watch. Fingers crossed an update will give the watch CarPlay support.

I've had my Ultra 2 for a month or so now and I've found myself trying to be more "daring" by leaving my phone at home. Unfortunately, like a lot of people, when it's work hours, I gotta have my phone for emails and the such, but it's been a nice release to leave it at home when I take the dog for a walk or leave the house for a bit.

[–] peteycal@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I’ve found a couple issues with trying to use my watch without my phone. 1) I always seem to want my camera when I don’t have it; 2) you can’t create/ edit a note or ask Siri to make a note from the watch, even when it’s connected to the phone; 3) if you want to make/ take a phone call in public, you better have your AirPods with you.

[–] DCowboysCR@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I wish AW had support for:

-Uber/Lyft

-Apple CarPlay

-Picking up a Target 🎯 Drive Up Order

-Camera

[–] Eyehopeuchoke@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Nope. Still need my phone for insulin pump and cgm

[–] ZeusDubstep@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yep! Checking time and messages has been so much easier, and being able to run to the store or just walk around the block without my phone is amazing. I wasn’t much of a phone user before, but this definitely cut screen time down by a good chunk

[–] usernamechosen999@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Definitely. I can see the name of the song playing on my watch instead of on my phone. I have AOD turned off on my phone.

[–] xhedgehogx@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

To me, the answer is sort of a yes. I still need my phone for work. I can substitute it with a tablet or laptop, but I might as well just use my iPhone. I need to be available to respond to emails, word process, edit spreadsheets, etc. So, I usually just keep a small bluetooth keyboard in my work bag.

For my personal life, I was considering a Light Phone, but decided an Apple Watch Ultra made more sense, it's only $5/month more and I can track my health with it. I still use my iPhone a lot more than I need to, but having the option to just leave it at home for mundane tasks is nice. I usually don't bring my iPhone on walks, grocery store or coffee trips anymore unless I know I'm probably going to want to take photos.

I have a non LTE version but it does too, the Watch is in my pocket, unused
