It's the Gameboy of Theseus!

[–] Viatorem@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 1 year ago

Bro you took the color outta the Gameboy color lmao

[–] aerir@lemmy.aerir.xyz 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That looks sick, how difficult was the process?

[–] Codedheart@kbin.social 11 points 1 year ago

It's actually not very difficult but can be pricey depending on what you wanna mod and the tools you need to get. Plenty of YouTube videos that teach you how to do it, and I highly recommend checking some out.

Many IPS screens for the GB/A require extra sanding or removal of plastic internals so that the screen seats correctly.

That looks incredible!

We need new front lenses that say "Game Boi Color" for units like these that are so awesome.

[–] helloharu@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

That is gorgeous.

Can you get the dot matrix effect on the ips screens? It’s a big part of the gba nostalgia for me

[–] Mint_Raccoon@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Some screens have this as an optional feature. A lot of times they call it something like “retro pixel.”

[–] bop@lemmy.fmhy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Ah, very cool, I’ll have to look into it more

[–] Lakija@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Imma be honest. It sounds like you’re describing a hotrod lol

I love it. This is really cool!

Nice! I just got a similarly modded GBA and Pokemon gold to play on vacation 😄 I'm so excited

[–] whenlifegivesyoureddit@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Where did you buy it out of interested? Not sure I could more this myself but would be intrigued to know how much it would cost to buy.

[–] Codedheart@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Etsy. Just search 'modded gameboy' and you'll see plenty of results

[–] NSA_Server_04@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Love it. I’ve seen a few metal CNC cases too.

[–] Albinoss@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

This is slick! I love it!

Love this, I'm about to attempt my first GBA mod this weekend. Got a bone stock blue one off ebay with a broken screen so going to install a backlit LCD

How did your modding turn out?

[–] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Don't judge me....1 year later these parts are still sitting on my desk awaiting assembly lol

[–] Grimm@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

I’ll check back again next year then, hahaha.

Been wanting to make one of these so bad, anyone know of a goode guide that a beginner can follow along?

[–] xeekei@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Real sick tbh

[–] oryx@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

My custom FunnyPlaying SP build is basically the same - all white everything!

[–] KeefChief13@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Never seen a crystal in grey tbh
