Saw my old foodnetwork hero AB disgrace himself on a commercial for snake oil brain sharpening pills. Such a pity to see someone that has a keen scientific mind turn his back on sound scientific logic for a quick buck. He knows this is garbage and it preys on his own fan base and the elderly. Suck on a cheesecloth sack of uncooked Rocky mountain oysters Alton.

I really liked the guy in his initial Good Eats show. I loved how he broke cooking down into a science. Then I watched him as a guest judge on Chopped, host on Cutthroat Kitchen, and several other shows and realized what a jackass he is. Not sure if it's a TV personality or if it is how he actually is irl. Regardless, it has really turned me off from watching anything he does.

I remember reading that he didn't like how much of a character the people behind cutthroat kitchen made him, still I also preferred the good eats Alton

I briefly followed him on Twitter years ago and quickly saw that he was a complete asshole.

Ahh wtf, really didn't expect him to go and do something as stupid at this. Looks like Mayim Bialik did the same shit. Here's an article that talks about a lawsuit the company that makes the pills settled on. They are no longer allowed to claim the supplement is backed by science (should tell you something).

I've heard bad things about him. Like how he'll go to restaurants and order off menu expecting them to make special dishes for him. Also he allegedly said some pretty unsavory things during one of his live talks. But man, I really loved Good Eats.

isnt he also a religious whackjob? best cooking show since yan though

[–] EF5C_EF5C@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Wow, that's been a while... "If Yan can cook, you can too"

I think that was a long time and another marriage ago.

I don't get that sense with him now, but could see that having been the case 20 or 30 years ago.

Yup. Good shows, pretty terrible guy.

Man, I hadn't seen this. I'll have to dig a little deeper, but from a quick scan doesn't look awesome.

I've been a big fan for many many years. Doesn't change what he did for food television. And helped do (along with other people/companies of the same era) to food science. But, damn, can't a hero just stay a hero?

At least I still have Jacques.
