Gets rated as the happiest country for yet another consecutive year.

Why! What am I missing!? Who here is happy?!!

[–] boredtortoise@lemm.ee 12 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Maybe we're doing "fake it before you make it" for the ratings

We're happier than other countries on average. Idk how people don't get how that ranking works

Living next to Russia does have that effect.

Just wanted to point out that the maker of Baba is You is one of the developers of Noita.

All of them are amazing gifts to the world

[–] Discoslugs@lemmy.world 29 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Noita is amazing.

And also very hard.

I cant get past 3 level

[–] melooone@feddit.de 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm also slowly getting into it. Just got a run yesterday where I got a super good wand in the hisi base. I was shooting these blue bubbles at high speed with homing. It had so much knockback that I could use only that to fly. It was the first time where I got to level 5,6 and even 7 and I was still breezing through. But I still died. I used a wand with lots of slots as storage for spells and it killed me immediately. Can't describe how terrible I felt after that...

Chainsaw is your friend

[–] trslim@pawb.social 27 points 1 year ago

Fear and Hunger man... that game is like a playable version of Berserk as a random person, rather than Guts.

[–] queue@lemmy.blahaj.zone 27 points 1 year ago

I do recall a joke about something similar.

"LSD and Unix both came out of UC Berkeley, I do not believe that this is a coincidence."

[–] Cylusthevirus@kbin.social 25 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Noita is really interesting, but I feel like the base game's balance is janky. You can play really well and just get utterly fucked on wands. They have this amazingly nuanced magic system but it feels like you rarely get the chance to harness it or experiment and death is very easy.

Don't get me wrong, I highly recommend it if you like side scrolling rogue-lites. Plus the game's a LOT bigger than it first appears.

[–] zzzzz@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

After playing for hundreds of hours, I decided that being fucked so often and so arbitrarily is the secret sauce that makes god-runs the fantastic dopamine rush that they are. Eventually, you attain equanimity with death; only then are you ready to ascend.

[–] nailbar@sopuli.xyz 11 points 1 year ago

I played a lot and once had a really good run and got really far. After that I didn't want to play any more because it felt it would take too long to ever get beyond that run.

Some kind of checkpoint from which you could start when you die would probably work better for me.

My friend’s theory was that a lot of it is because of how long and dark the winters are in northern europe.

[–] Natanael@slrpnk.net 10 points 1 year ago

That same lots of free time for many and early projects by universities to connect to the internet, and there's a whole lot of us Nordic nerds around

[–] WanakaTree@lemm.ee 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I love how all this dark shit comes out of the happiest country in the world

[–] Herbie@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Maybe this is how they balance their lives? "I'm too happy, I need to create evil in some way"

[–] 520@kbin.social 19 points 1 year ago (2 children)

One of these is definitely not like the others

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 28 points 1 year ago (3 children)

It's pretty torturous to sit on Lemmy and seeing the constant Linux posts.

[–] Diplomjodler@feddit.de 34 points 1 year ago

Do you have a few minutes to talk about our lord and saviour Linus Torvalds?

[–] 520@kbin.social 24 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (8 children)

Are you not a Linux fan, or is it just cropping up a bit too much for you?

I've been using Linux as a daily driver for over half my life, so seeing Linux everywhere is just normal to me. I can understand how it must feel weird to someone who hasn't or doesn't want to get involved with it though.

[–] Satelllliiiiiiiteeee@kbin.social 21 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Personally it's the degree of fanaticism around Linux here. I use Linux on most of my machines but I've seen so much weird gatekeeping and elitism around Linux here. You've gotta use Linux but don't use Ubuntu or Fedora because of what Canonical or Red Hat are doing. Oh but don't use Arch because you'll be required to tell everyone that you use it, btw. Oh, you chose a distro that uses systemd? Why do you hate the unix philosophy? It's just exhausting.

It feels like a weird geek version of virtue signalling – who can have the most 'correct' setup

Not the dude that you replied to, but heres my view.

There's alot of linux based memes present on lemmy, and lots of "Linux btw" posters. It's pretty disproportionate compared to other online locations of discussion. Im guessing the fediverse in general draws more of this crowd due to the nuances of it and similarly to how linux operates openly, etc, etc.

As a sysadmin whos focus is on all types of systems, it definitely doesn't bother or stick out much for me personally either, but there's for sure a higher content % about linux compared to other places. Which might get anoying to some people.

Ahh yes Noita, the setting-myself-on-fire simulator.

Cruelty Squad is bangin'

Baba is You looks like a super fun idea (I haven't yet played it tho). Same with Ultrakill; looks pretty dope.

[–] MossyFeathers@pawb.social 8 points 1 year ago (6 children)

Haven't played Baba is You, but ULTRAKILL is 10/10. I love it, I just can't play it. There's a certain boss fight I've gotten stuck on and can't get past because the game's pacing and music sends my heart rate through the roof and my ability to control my fine motor functions and ability to be patient and wait for attack patterns just kinda regresses to that of a 5yr old (music can have a very strong affect on me, Ultrakill's music is extremely fast).
