I think somebody told Trump that it only took Hitler 53 days to legally consolidate power and Trump decided to beat that horrible record.

archive.today • How Hitler Dismantled a Democracy in 53 Days - The Atlantic. I hated the writer's style but it's very informative. An example sentence

The problem, Hitler continued, was that this would almost certainly precipitate a national strike by the 6 million German Communists, which could, in turn, lead to a collapse of the country’s economy.

---

The Cliff Notes is this redditor's summary.

  • Hitler exploited Germany's democratic Weimar Constitution to rise to power.

  • He leveraged Article 48, which allowed emergency decrees during crises, to bypass democratic processes.

  • The Reichstag Fire Decree suspended civil liberties, enabling the suppression of political opponents.

  • The Enabling Act of 1933 granted Hitler unchecked legislative power, effectively sidelining the Reichstag.

  • Using propaganda and intimidation, he consolidated power while maintaining a facade of legality.

  • Democratic institutions were systematically dismantled under the guise of constitutional legitimacy.

I wonder which will come first: a false flag targeting and blaming China for an attack, or a false flag blaming "leftists" for attacking the US state?

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My hunch is first China. Then there will be a GOP talking point repeated a million times that "leftists are working for China because they hate America." And - of course - the dems will make it bipartisan. They will want to show that they love America more than even the GOP as they sound exactly like Fox News turds.

god I hate how believable this all sounds

I hope Hexbear lasts for decades more. But if we get shutdown it will likely be because of an insane bipartisan internet dragnet law to combat "online extremism". Meanwhile extremist right-wing sites, militias, etc are openly discussing how to mod assault rifles to be fully-auto, how to print 3d guns, how to make homemade explosives, and how to hunt the libs for sport. Hell, maybe a Proud Boy or two will be on the commission to determine and define what constitutes online extremism.

[Trump Train pulls into station]

"Welp, end of the line."

[Doors open, passengers depart]

a-little-trolling "Welcome, beautiful people, welcome, everyone, to City Seventeeeen (Seventeen already? Can you believe it?). You have chosen, or maybe you've been chosen — I don't know, some people choose, some people get chosen — to relocate to this beautiful city, which is one of America's finest remaining urban centers (many people are saying this!). And honestly, years ago, many years ago, I went to this beautiful city, and I saw it, I saw how clean it was, and I said, 'You know what? I should establish my administration right here.' — And Our Benefactors, can you believe it, they built (very thoughtfully) the Citadel for me, they built our big beautiful new capitol building right here in the heart of City 17. It's true! At no cost for American taxpayers! We have the greatest benefactors in this country don't we folks! So if you've come here to beautiful clean City 17 to spend the rest of your days, or even if you're just passing through here, through City 17, on your way to any other corner of our big beautiful United States of America, President Donald Trump personally welcomes you to City 17. It's safer here! Safer here than in Mexico, that's for sure!"
