I’ve recently come to learn that pumpkin soup is the supreme thick and hearty soup. I’m a full on gourd-head these days.

That's what I learned! Really improving my soup game lately.

How does your system kick back tomatoes.

[–] dannoffs@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Bad tomato soup can be really acidic.

[–] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Good tomato soup can be acidic too. That's like half the point of eating it for me, taste-wise. You can always use an antacid to counteract it in the stomach.

[–] glimmer_twin@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

A couple of really finely grated carrots will cut that acidity also. If you simmer the soup long enough they basically melt, won’t even affect the texture.

[–] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

A lot of people puree tomato soup at the end if they are using whole or diced tomatoes from a can or fresh. That would take care of the carrot chunks.

My stomach is sensitive to acidity

[–] adultswim_antifa@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

My father, who is genuinely a stupid person, always eats tomato soup when his stomach is upset. He is so consistently wrong about everything, political, economic, social, and personal, that he even eats tomato soup when his stomach hurts.

It's not good for people with GERD/acid reflux, especially if they can't vomit it out.

[–] Lemmygradwontallowme@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ok, you got me (I should've be more specific), I meant people afflicted with acid reflux

[–] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Don't worry, I understood what you meant, I was just making a silly joke.

[–] Lemmygradwontallowme@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Tell ye what. What interests you of Ethiopia at the moment? (you seem more geopolitically inclined to it than me)

[–] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I wouldn't say I'm more interested in Ethiopia now than I have been, necessarily. "ደሞ በአባይ ድርድር" is lyrics from a song called "Demo Be Abay" by Teddy Afro, and I've been thinking about that song a lot lately due to the tensions in the Arctic at the moment, since "Demo Be Abay" is a song about the tensions between Egypt and Ethiopia as a result of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, and a lot of the song's themes then seem relevant to other disputes and tensions between other countries.

Coincidentally, I'd also recently started watching a long-form YouTube video called "Uprising: the Ethiopian Revolution Explained" by Anansi's Library, so I think that also got me thinking about Ethiopia again, and listening to a lot of old songs from the socialist period. My cousin was also just recently talking about how he'd been trying to learn more about Ethiopian history, too, because he wants to understand Africa and you can't understand Africa if you don't understand Ethiopia.

But I dunno, I've had some amount of interest in Ethiopia and really the Horn of Africa in general for years, and I think I have various reasons for this interest. The Horn is just a region that I think naturally gets people's interest for one reason or another. This being said I'm still very ignorant about Ethiopian issues, like I tried to get a "vibe check" on the Fano insurgency here on Hexbear about a year ago, and didn't get anything but a single joke reply, and I still haven't managed to form a coherent opinion on the Fano insurgency now a year later.
