Image is of many Hamas soldiers supervising the handing over of Israeli hostages to cars heading out of the Gaza Strip.

After 15 months of genocide - and resistance to it - the Israeli regime realized that they could not win a military victory against Hamas, and were forced to sign a humiliating ceasefire in order to get their hostages returned.

With much of Syria under the control of Al-Qaeda, and an increasing level of covert infiltration into Lebanon, the crisis in the Middle East is not over, and we may still be in its beginning stages, as the center of hegemony continues its gradual shift away from the United States. Their navy, once considered the best in the world, is likely also not very happy about their ships and aircraft carriers being forced to retreat by Yemen, one of the poorest countries; and all eyes are on Iran, who has, over the last year and a half, demonstrated a newfound confidence and strength to directly strike Israel.

The recovery for Gaza will take, at a minimum, decades; it could indeed never fully recovery to even how it was before, considering it is not in Israel's interests to see their concentration camps recover. But Hamas has proven to be steadfast and the tunnel network has proven its resilience, despite facing some of the most powerful conventional bombing in history. This shows that Palestine's liberation is a when, not an if; and hopefully a much sooner "when" than expected before October 7th.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

I can tell you're all excited about inauguration shitposting and so as a treat I will not remove all these not newsworthy posts. Get it out of your system now as tomorrow we will be back to our usual schedule of mod tyranny. Also, everyone shitposting now had better be thinking about what useful content they can bring to the thread later in the week.

edit: I encourage those shitposting on this blessed day to join the imperialism book club

Edit 2: it is now tomorrow. mod tyranny is back on the menu

Slovak Opposition Plans a ‘Color Revolution’, PM Fico Warns - Telesur English

Article

On Friday, protesters could occupy government buildings, call for a national strike, or confront security forces. On Thursday, Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico accused the opposition of planning subversive acts, ahead of protests scheduled for this Friday in more than 20 cities against his pro-Russian policies.

“Someone is openly saying that they are sending people across Slovakia who are connected to opposition parties, NGOs, and the media, and that it is necessary to use public disobedience, start occupying government buildings, and obstruct the work of the government,” he said, warning that protesters could occupy government buildings, call for a national strike, or confront security forces in a form of ‘Color Revolution’ to overthrow him.

The Western-backed opposition ridiculed the accusations and criticized the prime minister for attempting to criminalize peaceful protests and thus discourage citizen participation by creating a climate of fear.

Fico’s accusations are based on a report from the Slovak Intelligence Services (SIS), which was presented behind closed doors in Parliament on Tuesday. The SIS uncovered an operation to destabilize Slovakia, according to a report based on messages generated by ChatGPT for the NGO “Not In Our Town.”

Founded in 2013, this non-governmental organization called for ideas to mobilize non-violently against the government, and ChatGPT suggested protests and blockades of public buildings to demand respect for the law, reject ties with Russia, and maintain the country’s pro-European orientation.

However, the NGO denied any conspiracy or illegal acts, clarifying that the plans were drafted using ‘ChatGPT’ and publicly sent to about a hundred organizations participating in the protests.

Following the SIS report, President Peter Pellegrini convened a State Security Council meeting for today, which decided not to take preventive measures, such as increasing surveillance of official premises. “We call on citizens not to be manipulated into breaking the constitutional order,” Fico urged.

The leader of the opposition party ‘Progressive Slovakia,’ Michal Šimečka, criticized Fico’s comments about alleged subversive activities and labeled the SIS report a “dangerous parody.” As a result of the SIS report, however, the political opposition chose to withdraw the motion of no confidence against the Fico administration that was to be processed on Tuesday. This legislative action will be resumed in the future.

The pro-European opposition has called for protests against the government on Friday in the capital Bratislava and more than twenty cities in the EU and NATO member country since 2004.

Donald Trump in fiery call with Denmark’s prime minister over Greenland. Hexbear post

Donald Trump insisted he was serious in his determination to take over Greenland in a fiery telephone call with Denmark’s prime minister, according to senior European officials.

The US president spoke to Mette Frederiksen, the Danish premier, for 45 minutes last week. The White House has not commented on the call but Frederiksen said she had emphasised that the vast Arctic island — an autonomous part of the kingdom of Denmark — was not for sale, while noting America’s “big interest” in it.

Five current and former senior European officials briefed on the call said the conversation had gone very badly.

It was the best phone call, a perfect phone call, nobody has ever had a better phone call before folks. Trust me, more and more people are saying this. trump-anguish

‘Very important step’: Chinese scientists turn E coli into a photosynthetic life form

A dangerous bacteria is being used by researchers to help create a range of bioproducts with no carbon footprint

https://www.scmp.com/news/china/science/article/3296173/very-important-step-chinese-scientists-turn-e-coli-photosynthetic-life-form

[–] carpoftruth@hexbear.net 3 points 4 minutes ago* (last edited 2 minutes ago)

The "carbon sink" aspect of this relies on semantics and isn't actually a meaningdul carbon sink. When any form of life does photosynthesis, it pulls carbon dioxide out of the air and makes some kind of carbon molecule out of it, like cellulose/lignin (plant tissue) or in this case a carbohydrate like glucose. That indeed removes carbon dioxide from the air. However, unless the ultimate product is a stable, sequestered carbon in a form like charcoal or carbonate mineral, then the carbon is in a form that is just waiting to react and ultimately turn back into CO2. In the example from the paper, the cell makes glucose. In actual applications, the cell would make some other carbon intermediate chemical that would be used in other biopharmaceutical processes before it is eventually cycled and reacted back into CO2.

This type of biopharma manufacturing could be less energy intensive than other pharma approaches and that would reduce lifecycle carbon emissions, but it wouldn't make the process a carbon sink unless the spent biomass from this type of process is turned into biochar or some other form of stable carbon.

Politico: State Department issues immediate, widespread pause on foreign aid

It appears to go further than President Donald Trump’s recent executive order, which instructed the department to pause foreign aid grants for 90 days pending review by the secretary. It had not been clear from the president’s order if it would affect already appropriated funds or Ukraine aid.

Still, the document leaves room for interpretation and does provide some exceptions. It specifies that foreign military financing for Egypt and Israel will continue and allows emergency food assistance and “legitimate expenses incurred prior to the date of this” guidance “under existing awards.” At points, it also says the decisions need to be “consistent with the terms of the relevant award.”

One current State Department official, plus two former Biden administration officials, said the pause appears to stop aid to key allies such as Ukraine, Jordan and Taiwan. These officials were granted anonymity to discuss sensitive internal government documents.

Stopping aid to Ukraine and Taiwan is pretty huge, even if temporary. Would be nice if Israel was included, but that would be silly to expect.

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 3 points 29 minutes ago* (last edited 1 minute ago) (1 children)

For now it doesn't matter much, as suprise suprise, Israel is set to supply the latest round of serious military aid to Ukraine. All the usable Soviet and Russian made equipment they captured in Syria and Lebanon, plus retired Patriot AD batteries that have been replaced by David's Sling, are set to go to Ukraine. The deal is all speculation as of now, but transport aircraft movement is suggesting that it has started. The same C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft made a flight from Germany, to Israel, then direct to Poland. This flight happened on January 23 2025.

Expect the Ukrainians to be fielding Syrian specification T-72 tanks and Hezbollah ATGMs soon. A new addition to their hodgepodge of equipment.

[–] companero@hexbear.net 3 points 20 minutes ago (1 children)

I believe the State Department gives Ukraine billions in cash to pay salaries. Presumably that's paused as well.

I guess Europe could be forced to step up and pay it, which would align with Trump's rhetoric.

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 3 points 15 minutes ago* (last edited 9 minutes ago)

Yeah the USAID and State Department funded stuff like that would have to be replaced by someone to keep Ukraine functional as a state. I think Europe will be forced to foot the bill as you say.

But I just find this scenario very indicative of the US - Israel relationship works, and the covert way the US government works so that Trump can technically keep his promises on scaling down aid to Ukraine. The US probably forced Israel into doing this, I don't think that Israel would want to piss off Russia like this. And Trump can go onto say "no more US aid to Ukraine" while they use Israel to ship them the weapons. So technically he's right, all the while Ukraine is set to receive a significant cache of ex Syrian and Hezbollah equipment, and some Patriot batteries come out of retirement for Ukraine.

[–] DickFuckarelli@hexbear.net 15 points 2 hours ago

Not a new development but I still lol at the fact Israel and Egypt also get to collect interest on their foreign aid.

[–] 3rdWorldCommieCat@hexbear.net 11 points 2 hours ago

A small silver lining.

Footage has been released by the Al-Qassam Brigades of Yahya Sinwar, the martyred leader of Hamas, on the frontlines of the battlefield in Gaza, co-ordinating and conducting operations. He is seen walking around with a cane/staff, dealing with some kind of ailment/injury. He is also seen within visual range of an abandoned/destroyed Israeli Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).

Side note, anyone know of some good free translation websites/software for videos that generate English subtitles? AI or not AI, I don't care as long as it works. I have this video, plus another one, the full interview with the IRGC general that made the rounds at the beginning of this month, that would be interesting, but I obviously can't understand them as I don't speak Arabic or Persian.

I'm going to try set up Whisper AI tomorrow, I'll update everyone on the results. If it works, I'll try post the videos with the subtitle files somewhere.

Peter Ciriwami, governor of North Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been killed as M23 encircles the provincial capital of Goma

The Kivu conflict has been ongoing for more than 20 years at this point. M23 previously held Goma in 2012 before a ceasefire. It seems like no state is truly in control of the eastern DRC as M23 is backed by Rwanda, while the UN has claimed the DRC is arming non-state militias inside Kivu province to fight back. In a similar fashion to the Myanmar Civil War there are so many active groups here it feels impossible to keep track of alliances and controlled territory.

Protests in Slovakia have reddit libs furiously masturbating. Anything to worry about? Anyone been paying attention? I know precisely zero about it.

[–] grandepequeno@hexbear.net 9 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Current PM (conservative social democrat, has been PM twice before) is constantly attacked by Pro-EU people, he's recently announced a "we'll talk to everyone" foreign policy stance which EU people only ever interpret as Pro-russian and Anti-EU so they're mobilizing against him, same shit as in georgia although less dramatic.

They're pro-eu protests, who knows if it escalates.

Honestly I'm suprised this hasn't happened in Czechia yet, the guy there is also against further support for ukraine

That's Serbia, we're talking about Slovakia here. In this case it's much clearer that the goal would be to depose a neutralist prime minister to replace him a eurocuck

[–] ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net 26 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

its a colour revolution attempt ., thats why you heard about it on reddit. .. fico recently warned about it.

Yeah love how every single obvious color revolution we have to go through this process of “umm akshually it’s a grass roots democratic revolution” even among other communists

Wake the fuck up people. Slovakia is friendly to Russia, it will get couped. The opposition waiting in the wings are NATOID libs. Get serious

[–] jack@hexbear.net 5 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

There's no reason we shouldn't discuss and evaluate amongst ourselves, even if we know what the answer's gonna be 95% of the time. That proper scientific analysis.

[–] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 5 points 53 minutes ago

Proper scientific analysis is to look at the demands of the movement. Are they material and in the immediate interests of the working class? No. Would they bring an organized working class into power? No. There. Analysis done. Any protest that is filled with libs calling for abstract ideals is shit.

[–] GaryLeChat@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Could this be in regards to Russian gas being shut off by Ukraine?

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 23 points 4 hours ago

I don't know, something about big protests that are bigger than 1989. Here's how lib media is spinning it: https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/slovak-protests-build-rebuke-pm-ficos-russian-tilt-2025-01-24/

Fico is claiming it's a US-backed coup attempt in the 2014 Ukrainian style.
