Temporary ceasefire? football-lucy

It's fucking wild that Trump has done more to stop the war on Gaza with this one move than anything Biden did in his whole term.

Trump has outflanked the entire American establishment to the left on foreign policy despite threatening to invade every country within a thousand miles of a US military base.

Fucking astounding shit is going on, entirely fuelled by one man's ego and the many sycophants working diligently to inflate it.

genuine question, are there any countries that are not within 1000 miles of a US military base?

[–] PoY@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

i'm not certain but I would feel pretty sure about the answer being no

[–] NuraShiny@hexbear.net 11 points 17 hours ago

Gotta stockpile those missiles and that ammo for the invasion of Greenland.

It is amazing how Israel buckles under any amount of pressure after over a year of being told that Israel could continue on their own and the president couldn't do anything to change it.

Very informative to know that hundreds of thousands are dead because the democrats simply refused to do anything to stop it other than briefing the press about how sad they are about it.

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 19 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Ofc they buckle under pressure, they send tanks ahead of infantry and airstrike civilians who can't fight back. Their entire modus operandi is "pls don't hurt me I am a smol bean" but also "mega badass who can do anything" but also "don't criticize us we're the most moral army" but also "eat shit and die, we're going to build a hotel on the beach over your childrens' corpses" but also "campus protestors on the other side of the planet are doing psychic damage to our troops >:" but also "our troops are so competent they reach the rank of 5 star general by the age of 28 and also invented the cherry tomato"

I believe the kids call it "being tsundere"

[–] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 10 points 20 hours ago

Traditional fascist "our enemies are laughably weak" and "our enemies are so strong we have to brutalise everyone around us", and being unable to tell true believers (who actually believe their spoken words) and cynics (who are just signalling loyalty to one another) means that they wind up just being pretty unable to assess the world around them.

[–] THEPH0NECOMPANY@hexbear.net 38 points 1 day ago

26th article of the week about how Biden is super duper mad this time guys, he's totally gonna think about doing something.

[–] TheDrink@hexbear.net 41 points 23 hours ago (4 children)

Just realized that Trump is going to bumble his way into peace in gaza and ukraine and be remembered for all eternity as the USA's greatest peacemaker.

[–] Sickos@hexbear.net 7 points 14 hours ago

I'll be giggling and poking my libs "he's a felon! He should be in jail!" when Trump is accepting his peace prize

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 41 points 23 hours ago (8 children)

It would be even funnier if he negotiated a deal with the DPRK and brought the official end to the war while reuniting the peninsula.

[–] combat_doomerism@hexbear.net 14 points 16 hours ago

I can see it now, trump calls Yoon a moron weak loser, praises kim jong un for being so strong and tough or something

Also signs an executive decreeing a do-over on the year 2024 and subsequently unifies Ireland as the Prophets foretold.

he's gonna start posting on xiaohongshu and accidentally make peace with china too because he finds that guy from chongqing that does a trump impression

[–] BGDelirium@hexbear.net 16 points 21 hours ago

That was an amazing impression. My wife thought it was Trump from the other room

[–] xiaohongshu@hexbear.net 18 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

Wait until he makes a deal with China.

I have a hunch it’s going to happen, based on vibes and vibes alone (i.e. Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, UBS all just released signals that China’s A-shares are going to rally after Trump takes office. Wall Street have gone bullish on China even though they just slashed its rating two months ago).

We’re probably 1-2 years out from another Trump-Xi meeting.

Sure is cool that the democrats could have stopped their genocide at any moment with such immediate submission from their Israeli dogs. Liberals have shown exactly who they are.

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 38 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

It's kind of remarkable we're this far past Harris and Biden crashing out and I STILL keep finding new reasons to hate them more

Motherfuckers could've made ONE PHONE CALL, but they wanted all of it

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 13 points 22 hours ago

There isn't a religion on earth with a concept of evil that's dark enough to describe the average liberal. Blood for the blood god is the closest I can come to understanding how depraved they are.

[–] john_brown@hexbear.net 44 points 1 day ago (2 children)

everybody needs to gird their loins for the time when the Democrats are running again. They will claim this as their victory. They will pretend it just took two years of hard nosed negotiating with Israel to make this thing happen despite it literally just taking an incoming administration telling Israel to wrap this shit sandwich up before the 20th.

[–] john_brown@hexbear.net 21 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

FUCK

edit: I have to be honest I told everybody to gird their loins but I did not gird my own loins and that's on me

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 27 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (2 children)

You nailed it and the worst part is that this fits their meta narrative perfectly so they get to keep acting like smug elitist assholes looking down their noses at all of us for "not understanding how much time and hard work it takes to govern" or whatever parliamentarian bullshit they're on this week

Had some lib boomer clown like this a few months ago IRL ask me incredulously if I know how a law is made, I honestly wanted to punch him and if I hear any shit like this I may not be able to control myself

When the entirety of your political education is one schoolhouse rock song.

[–] CupcakeOfSpice@hexbear.net 4 points 9 hours ago

In my high school government class our learning about the lawmaking process I think was just that song and then a dead simple quiz on it. But now that I think about it, I did have mono at the time, so I missed a lot of classes. But no, our education in politics was very underwhelming. And just pretend Marx and friends didn't exist because we sure didn't learn about them despite the strong opinions we had about their theories.

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 17 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Oh you have no fucking idea how dead accurate what you just said was

He was literally organizing an extremely cringe lib sing along to campaign for Holocaust Harris that he called "Doing the Harris Waltz" and there's a small part of me that wishes I had been nice to him for a minute just to get a copy of the sheet notes with lyrics he handed out to his small group (the boomer libs were less than half of the size of our local weekly protest against the genocide) to post here for everyone to point and laugh at

[–] miz@hexbear.net 1 points 6 hours ago

it might be fun to ask him for a copy now

Setting the ceasefire on the 19th has to be trump's circus doing their best to make sure it's plain that Biden's own team of clowns weren't the ones to do the thing

[–] copandballtorture@hexbear.net 73 points 1 day ago (2 children)

geordi-no disrespecting normal people's religious beliefs

geordi-yes disrespecting a genocider's religious beliefs

[–] regul@hexbear.net 48 points 1 day ago

I respect sincerely-held religious beliefs, but find it hard to accept anyone with such an obvious thirst for power and blood has any of those.

[–] merthyr1831@lemmy.ml 13 points 21 hours ago

Bibi's adherence to the Sabbath is about as spiritually sincere as my adherence to Sunday being the day of rest which is conveniently legally mandated as a day off.

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 64 points 1 day ago (2 children)

First observation: this is unironically the most wildly antisemitic anecdote of the last few presidents AFAIK

Second observation: it's pretty funny to see it clearly spelled out that the US is the one holding the leash.

I'm a Jew (at least I was raised jewish, had a bneimitzvah, yadyada, who the fuck knows about my spirituality/lackthereof now) and it's not immediately clear to me why it's antisemitic to force a head of state break sabbath. It's been more than a decade since I read a translation, but does the Torah not explicitly permit breaking the sabbath in times of emergency or is that a talmudic or more modern opinion?

Am I missing a blind spot (in my own perspective) here?

trump-feed

frothingfash

while I regain the moral high ground regarding Palestine, you can have some anti-semitism as a treat

[–] SovietBeerTruckOperator@hexbear.net 28 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can break the sabbath to save a life right? Which this ceasefire would do.

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 23 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

100% true, like how you can eat non kosher/halal if you are starving and there are no there options available

A lot of people don't know the actual tenets of the religions they claim, just the (often not entirely correct parts) they gain through cultural osmosis, not that there's anything wrong with non-orthodoxy it's just you should probably read the book if your going to claim something as part of you identity

[–] merthyr1831@lemmy.ml 12 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

Moreover for Jewish Israelis is that many of them are just secular but call themselves Jewish as an ethnic group.

Like if I called myself a Christian for simply observing a few cultural traditions of my predominantly Christian community despite being totally secular in my spiritual practice.

It has a dual benefit. Any violence against Israelis is inherently antisemitic, but without the caveat that you have to teach your children that Judaism forbids the creation of an ethnostate in the holy land only habitable by Jewish people.

Witkoff's blunt reaction took them by surprise. He explained to them in salty English that the Shabbat was of no interest to him. His message was loud and clear.

Translation: "I don't give a fuck about the sabbath you fucking removed you're bad for business" paulie-point
