Damn at 39, he’s the oldest player in the league. Could very well be the end.

Man this really sucks for Rodgers, and for the Jets.

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And the Packers. We have either a 1st or 2nd round draft pick depending on how much Rodgers played this year.

And as much as I was ready to see him leave GB, I didn't want things to go this way for him. Wanted a GB/Jets game next year.

I mean we still are coming out of this ok.

We were able to use an entire off season to prep for our Rodgers successor. And he's off our books next year, leaving us in an ok financial situation.

Yes I'd love to have that first round pick. But I'm also just happy we still have our season ahead of us, exactly as we planned it. And I'm sure happy we don't have a 39 year old immobile QB to have been eaten alive on the first drive of the game during week 1.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't what I wanted for him or us either. But we are decidedly in the best position of anyone in this shitty situation and I'll take that.

This is a huge bummer for such a mediocre team with great hopes for this season, but especially for the fan base.

Jets fans are used to it. This actually isn't the first time something like this has happened to the team.

Maybe my perspective is different as a Bills fan, but the Jets are by no means mediocre. Their defense is top-tier, and they have a legit run game. Josh Allen made a lot of poor decisions in this game, but the Jets were good enough to take advantage of them.

Gotta say, I've never felt so much happiness and so much sadness and such a roller coaster in 3.5 hours.

It sounds like it's all but confirmed and it just sucks man. We really are cursed. As if I needed more evidence than what I've witnessed over the past few decades.

Dude I am so sorry. Packers fan here, definitely not a Rodgers fan after the nonsense he's pulled the last few years but omg I would not wish this on the fans in a million years.

Thanks, yeah just never gonna get excited about anything with this franchise ever again. No point.

Not to be a Debby Downer but I imagine this is it for old Qaron Rodgers. The guy is 39, had a LOT of mileage on him, has won a Super Bowl and a SBMVP, and is guaranteed a shit ton of money thanks to his most recent contract.

I really do not like him but I will be sad to see him go. He is a high caliber quarterback in a league that’s lacking good QB play right now.

[–] CobolSailor@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago

On the bright side he's 1-0 as the NJ Jets starting QB!

Man, it seems like an Achilles tear is the meanest injury. Like so many times athletes don't even notice it happens, then they go to do something totally normal (like get up after a routine hit/sack) and then realize they can't. Like most the time I've seen them they're not even in pain they just straight up cant use their leg correctly.

Fuckin sucks man.

[–] petercockroach@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Are you sure you’re not confusing it with an ACL tear? I’m pretty sure an Achilles tear is quite painful.

[–] silverbax@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I've had an ACL tear, which left me with three screws in my knee after surgery. I was definitely not painless when it happened, it sent Shockwave of pain through my body.

[–] BrainisfineIthink@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago

Yes. Kevin Durant tore his Achilles and didn't even realize it until he finished sprinting down the court. Rodgers didn't seem to realize it until he tried to stand up. Probably has to do with adrenaline but lots of athletes seem to tear it and not realizes right away, whereas an ACL or hamstring people seem to notice immediately.

Terrible to see that. Wow.
