I got a job, first official day is monday. Gonna be picking weeds mostly but it's honest work. Got some pain meds ready and gonna try my best to head to the gym after work to keep my other goal of a pull up
Self Improvement
A community which focusses on improving yourself. This can be in many different ways - from improving physical health or appearance, to improving mental health, creating better habits, overcoming addictions, etc.
While material circumstances beyond our control do govern much of our daily lives, people do have agency and choices to make, whether that is as "simple" as disciplining yourself to not doomscroll, to as complex as recreating yourself to have many different hobbies and habits.
This is not a place where all we do is talk about improving "productivity" (in a workplace context) and similar terms and harmful lifestyles like "grindset". Self-improvement here is intended to make you a generally better and happier person, as well as a better communist, and any other roles you may have in your life.
Rules and guidelines:
- Posts should be about self-improvement. This is obviously a wide category, and can range from advice, to finding resources, to self-posts about needing to improve in a certain area, or how you have improved, and many other things.
- Use content warnings when discussing difficult subjects.
- Do not make medical decisions solely because of a discussion you have had with any person here (e.g. whether to take or not take medications; diagnoses; etc.) as we do not vet people. All medical problems should be discussed with a real-life medical professional.
- Do not post harmful advice here. If this is seen, then please report it and we shall remove it. If you are unsure about whether it's precisely harmful advice or not but feel uneasy about it, please report it anyway.
- Do not insult other users and their lifestyles or their habits (unless they ask, I suppose). This is a place for self-improvement. Critique and discussion about a course of action is encouraged over shit-flinging. Don't talk down to people.

It was real good, paid to touch grass
- Over 10,000 steps every single day this week!
- Ate real food most days, and slightly less awful food the rest
- Hung out 1 on 1 for the first time with a new-ish friend which I think went well
- Forgot a couple minor errands
- Cheated like 3 days where I drank 1 cup of coffee

I have managed to go a whole week without biting my nails, longest streak since my first kid was born. I'm not sure if this means I'm full of willpower or have lost all will even for biting my nails...
Keep it up. I hopefully your consciously/unconsciously addressing all the things that make your nail bite.
Did some meditation, reading and running this week. Bought some new books.
What I learned this week: Amla is the the most antioxidant-packed uncommon spice. You can buy powdered amla in a health food store and add it to your oatmeal or smoothie. I started doing it this week. It's a super easy way to get a bunch of antioxidants.
Might have to pick some up
antioxidant in the morning doesn't sound like a bad move.
Gone to the gym everyday since I got a new membership
::: spoiler weight loss/diet/exercise stuff Back of the napkin math, I'm at least around -1000kcals under resting metabolic rate at the same time I'm burning at least 1000 more than I usually do
Idk if I'm hypomanic or what but I have like no appetite and eating enough/hitting my macros feels like a chore
A lot of my meals have been +protein powder slurry
I'm making (re)newbie gainz quick and I'm just kinda dreading when I'm gonna burn out on this pace
For now though, I'm fixated on hitting various milestones and have lost two notches on my belt already in a week
Most of my lifts are frustrating and disappointing to me now, but I wasn't going regularly since early 2020 so that's to be expected, and I'm trying to not fixate on Number Of Plates and just find good working weight for 5 sets that's challenging but not "oh shit I'm dying/gonna injure myself"
I still think I'm looking terrible, but at least I'm trending in a positive direction now
I still think I'm looking terrible, but at least I'm trending in a positive direction now
That's what it's all about. It's corny to say because of the stupid self-help industry but getting 1% better really does stack up over time. Keep at it!
My tummy is getting smaller and my legs are getting toned
I need to program more hip thrusts and lunges for
Same shit mostly from me been busy this weekend helping my partner out
I missed a few of these:
One of my leg wrists hurt really bad a month ago so between that and the weather I haven't been running much, however I've been doing music a lot when not tired which is good.
The problem is that I've been tired a lot
leg wrists
Not trying to sound like a jerk in case you're doing a lil' goof but if you're ESL and were unsure of the English word for that body part, it's "ankle"
(leg wrist sounds more fun tbh though)
Congrats on the music stuff! I need to practice my instruments more and finding the time for it has been rough lately
- Gym: On point
- School: On point
- Money: Broke
- Book reading: On point
- Social interaction: on the decline
- Actively trying to show up to my own life in every i can: On point
Highlight of my week: I got a solid 20 hours of game development in.
stress, mental health improvement, near meltdown, sobriety
Had the kind of day yesterday where every inanimate object and technological gizmo were conspiring against me personally
Anything on a shelf fell off, anything I looked at wrong fell over, every app crashed or froze, Bluetooth wouldn't pair, a broom broke off in the bristle head thing so I couldn't even just replace the stick part without chiseling out the end of the old broken stick, etc
Just exhausting tedious stressful bullshit non stop
Still managed to make myself go to the gym and had a relatively good leg day
Absolutely gassed, walking funny, finally get to the shower
The shower curtain bar fucking falls off and on my head, don't have my glasses on, can't see shit to fix it, water still running and getting on the floor, just a shit show
ALMOST lose my fucking shit and start throwing everything and breaking shit (more)
Manage to do DBT self dialogue shit after I loudly curse a couple times and Velma without her glasses/McGyver my way out of that bullshit
Almost road rage at a dumbass not using their blinker on the way home and get pissed at my shitmobile's screechy fan belt for the heater/AC trying to defog the windows and punch the horn a couple times
Didn't lose control
Old me definitely would have and this would've made me go on an 80 proof 1.75L nosedive for a couple days, stayed dry this time
One day at a time
The fuckin' way she goes bud
Been going to the gym three times a week for the past few months. Getting real close to my first big milestone: 5 reps of 75kg squats and 5 reps of 100kg deadlifts. Yesterday I managed 4 reps of 95kg deadlifts before failing. Gotta remember to eat more food, that's the hardest part...
