The wealth of the 10 richest people in the world – a list dominated by US tech billionaires – increased by a record amount after Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election, according to a widely cited index.

The Bloomberg Billionaires Index estimated that the world’s 10 wealthiest people gained nearly $64bn (about £49.5bn) on Wednesday, the largest daily increase since the index began in 2012.

Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, registered the largest increase with a $26.5bn addition to his fortune, which now stands at $290bn. The prominent backer of Trump’s campaign, benefited from a surge in the share price of Tesla, the electric carmaker where he is chief executive and in which he owns a 13% stake.

The gains came as tech business leaders, including Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, chief executive of Facebook parent Meta, and Apple’s Tim Cook publicly congratulated Trump on his election win...

I got my $244 worth of stock value increase, I'll be a billionaire any day now.

And that's the entire point really.

Behind all of the sturm und drang and all of the Christian nationalist noise and all of the hate and all of the furor is, and has been from the start, a handful of fabulously wealthy psychopathic fuckwads who recignized in Trump an opportunity to protect and even expand their entirely undeserved and grotesquely destructive privilege.

Yeah this was an election of billionaires vs everyone else. Unfortunately the billionaires won by making their voters think they were playing a different game.

Any election in the USA is an election of billionaires, thanks to the system. It was just more grotesquely obvious this time because Elon is like a spoiled ten year old with no limits.

Musk already made back all the money he invested in Trump and then some. Hitched his low poly wagon to the idiot at just the right time…

I cannot imagine a future where trump doesnt turn on musk. i just cant see it

[–] errer@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oh I agree, but Musk has fuck you money and when that happens he’ll still be filthy rich.

[–] RidgeDweller@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago

Maybe he'll fuck off down his next k-hole permanently.

We somehow need to convince a bunch of bozos that it isn't about Democrat and Republican anymore. It's rich versus poor.

[–] diskmaster23@lemmy.one 1 points 2 months ago

Nah, nobody cares.

Most people don’t give a shit about politics. They hear some rich fuckwad say “Mexicans are stealing your jobs” and “Haitians are eating chihuahuas” and “The schools are changing Timmys into Tinas,” and it’s oh my god they gotta vote for Trump. It’s not intellectual, it’s reptilian.

How do we get through to them, all the victims who know they’re victims, but never figure out who’s victimizing them? That’s the insolvable riddle-me-this-Batman.

[–] Lettuceeatlettuce@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 months ago

And that's just the beginning, it will get so much worse...

[–] latenightnoir@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

[–] diskmaster23@lemmy.one 6 points 2 months ago

I wish I was one of those 10 people. Hell I'll take #11 even.
