it's not true though is it, we don't know how to communicate with chickens and thus have no idea what they're going through. We can only guess by the cruel actions we inflict upon them.

That AI knows exactly the depths of human cruelty, but is empathetic enough to communicate with humans, so is unlikely to so casually inflict cruelty on something it respects enough to communicate with.

If chickens made humans, and humans could speak chicken, would we kill chickens? Something tells me (perhaps wishfully), "no".

We understand that chickens are intelligent birds that are capable of suffering, and we understand the horrors of animal farming perfectly well. The reality is that most people just don't care about it. The same way people don't care about the suffering of other humans when they pass a homeless person on the street without giving a second thought, or when they buy goods made by slave labor in one of the countries subjugated by the empire.

Chickens are smart enough to communicate "ouch" and "I am afraid of dying", yet here we are.

Humans already systematically enslave and murder humans who speak human. Being able to communicate wouldn't matter at all lol, and chickens can already communicate that they're in pain.

humans make humans, and humans speak human. Do we kill humans? The AI could also communicate just to dunk on us or attain some strategic advantage, you can't assume any motivation really because an AGI would not have the same biological motives as an animal.

Factory farms often employ a process called debeaking to reduce deaths of chickens. You see, when chickens are kept in cramped enough conditions, they start pecking each other to death from the stress. Debeaking prevents stress-motivated murder. The stress is still there, the chickens still hurt so bad they want to kill each other, they just can't because they don't have a beak anymore.
