That general sentiment has kinda diminished over the years, basically nonexistent with younger people now I think, but holy Christ remember the chastising tone of "you don't have to respect the person but you must respect the office" as if we're all little drones in an army. Sometimes I think we as a species probably deserve monarchy. Sure, I'd be miserable, but all these little "wow! That's the president you're talking about!" shits would love it. It almost seems cruel to keep insisting to them how much like medieval peasants they are. Maybe wallowing in pig shit and mud is really fun.
