Oh my God the Dems will win

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 59 points 3 months ago (4 children)

I was so fucking wrong about the assassination sealing donnies victory. I am just going to stop predicting.

[–] Antiwork@hexbear.net 36 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I mean the Dems in my life have never done so many things correctly in a couple of weeks. Betting against that happening was a good bet.

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 27 points 3 months ago

We have 3 months left, they can absolutely shoot their own foot off still

That said, it is shocking

[–] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 8 points 3 months ago

I think it's because they're actually scared of Trump with presidential immunity and a Supreme Court that will allow him to do whatever the fuck he wants, so they switched to "let's actually try to win". They might've seen they're quickly approaching the "and then they came for me" part.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Please dems, don’t give me hope. Don’t turn me into a (bigger) lib.

[–] JamesConeZone@hexbear.net 25 points 3 months ago

It's so wild, man. Trump got shot in the fucking head like 3 weeks ago, and absolutely no one gives a shit. His campaign is failing because they're being called "weird." This might be the worst fumble in history behind Hillary depending on if he loses and by how much

[–] ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net 22 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

but it sealed his victory , then picked vance , he changed the prophecy.

[–] Beaver@hexbear.net 23 points 3 months ago

With this pick, the thread of prophecy is severed. Restore a saved game to restore the weave of fate, or persist in the woke world you have created.

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago

this doesn't really change anything tho for the vast majority of libs imo.. they wouldn't see this as a good thing, if they even cared in the slightest. They might even view it as a net negative that maybe he's a bit of a coward who makes bad decisions for "NATIONAL SECURITY".

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago

It's amazing how low the bar is for the Dems.

[–] SnAgCu@hexbear.net 39 points 3 months ago

fuck me dude the dems turned it around

they did it to spite me specifically

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 36 points 3 months ago (1 children)

See! See! I told you he was the competent fascist we've feared! He knows! He has consulted the norns!

illuminati

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago

He's giving me socdem-cheney vibes. He's clearly competent enough to have an excellent control over his public image and he's triangulated perfectly to pick up the (american) far left. I think he's going to offer us and pony and the moon but not an inch on Palestine and then not do shit. Hell, given this press coverage, you'd think he's the presidential candidate.

[–] Justice@lemmygrad.ml 30 points 3 months ago (3 children)

It's such an insanely fucking low bar that he went to China and was like "yeah, this is fine. We don't need to be their enemy."

I won't overly stretch this comparison, but remember when Trump went to DPRK and met with Kim Jung Un and said something to the effect of "he's a nice guy. Great guy! We should work together." (Or whatever exactly. Not goggling it) and the insane fucking media went into overdrive meltdown mode. Actually, he said similar things about Xi and Putin.

I don't think these guys are comparable in many ways, but it is interesting how the fully "normal person" opinion of "yeah, I met the guy, he was fine towards me. I don't understand why we're doing all of this sanction shit. Maybe we should work on ending that." is held by most Americans and yet held by exactly zero corporate media shills and basically zero politicians who always make sure to adhere perfectly to the media narratives or suffer their wrath. Another thing Trump is right but for the wrong reason on... media and their narratives. They lie about him all the time, but about shit that doesn't matter (most of the time) or stuff he did that was good. Like the DPRK thing. And when they did that shit, pretty quickly it seems like he took the advice of the insane war hawks surrounding every president and never followed through on anything.

Some other insanely pro-war recent moments: the entire fucking media pretending that the US in Afghanistan was a good thing. Obviously their total lying about or ignoring the genocide being done to Palestinians. They even shat on Obama (reluctantly because they loved him) for making a nuclear deal with Iran. The right wing ran wild with it and the libs were like "yes this sounds good, but is Obama actually causing Iran to nuke LA in the future? Who could say!"

If Trump could do a compromise 2:1 liberal to conservative media purge, I'm not gonna say no. Van Jones and Tapper go in the same cage as Jesse Waters. Anderson Cooper, Maddow, and Gutfeld. These are the kinds of unhinged promises that might win my vote

[–] CarmineCatboy2@hexbear.net 26 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I won't overly stretch this comparison, but remember when Trump went to DPRK

Here's an easier one: when Nixon went to China.

The bar is at Nixon.

[–] Justice@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Nixon is unironically the best president since him... if that makes sense. No one has been better than him that came after. I feel like a lot of Americans would resist this, but once you examine reality and accept it...... like goddamn man. Nixon. If we had Nixon things would be better. What. The. Fuck.

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

It's pretty insane but it's true. Nixon is like Michael Douglas in Falling Down when he meets the neonazi guy and gets offended by his Nazi German memorabilia and angrily declares "I am an American!" But drunk and also fascist and racist, cuz that's how Tricky Dick rolled.

[–] Biggay@hexbear.net 11 points 3 months ago

This is why active diplomacy is so frowned upon by the natsec people. When you talk to people you learn that they are human, and that you should work together for common good and common cause.

[–] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago (2 children)

They even shat on Obama (reluctantly because they loved him) for making a nuclear deal with Iran

A deal with Iran that was just a protection racket that we benefited from! Iran was never building nukes, we screamed “Iran’s building nukes! Sanctions! Sanctions!” and then pressured them into a shit deal to remove the sanctions. And it was still too far for the bloodthirsty media and most politicians, and we went back on the deal.

Iran is not, and has never been, building nukes. They should. But they consider nuclear weapons to be haram

[–] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago

The only time the media condemned Biden was when he withdrew from Afghanistan. The only time the media praised Trump was when he bombed the Middle East.

[–] CommunistCuddlefish@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Can you tell me more about Iran considering nukes haram? That's really interesting

[–] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Most of what I know about Iran and nukes comes from citations-needed episode 14, The Iran Deal Protection Racket.

But basically Ayatollah Khamenei issued a fatwa a long time ago declaring nuclear and chemical weapons haram and a threat to humanity, a stance he’s stood by since. A translation of one version of his statements:

We believe that besides nuclear weapons, other types of weapons of mass destruction such as chemical and biological weapons also pose a serious threat to humanity. The Iranian nation which is itself a victim of chemical weapons feels more than any other nation the danger that is caused by the production and stockpiling of such weapons and is prepared to make use of all its facilities to counter such threats. We consider the use of such weapons as haraam and believe that it is everyone's duty to make efforts to secure humanity against this great disaster.

And that’s just from Natopedia

[–] CommunistCuddlefish@hexbear.net 1 points 2 months ago

Ok that is amazing. Thank you. I've listened to that episode but it's been years and I forget most except the sanctions as terrorism against civilians part.

[–] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 28 points 3 months ago

He's not only secured his victory for this election, but eternal victory and immortality. I don't make the rules. The Curse of the Lion is neither good nor evil. It simply is.

[–] CantaloupeAss@hexbear.net 14 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (4 children)

ok so I have long giggled at the neo-Castro memes about Assad but I really don't know much about him.

I know he leads a nominally socialist government but Syria has also, let's say, not been a very nice place for many people for quite a while, and some accuse Assad of war crimes.

Can anyone spare a take? or point me to non-westoid resources to learn more? (i promise i am asking genuinely and not doing wrecker shit)

Hexbear, I turn my ear to you who-must-go

EDIT: thank u for all the thoughtful commentary!

[–] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 24 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Assad has some bad and reactionary policies, but the stories about him using chemical weapons on civilians in territories he just liberated from terrorists is just horseshit (they were probably bombs planted by the fleeing terrorists)

[–] CantaloupeAss@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago (4 children)

I guess, what are the good policies we support him for? I'm really not familiar with worker conditions in Syria before and after his coming to power.

And again if there are good articles or whatever I'm happy to read, just not finding much from Wikipedia / other quickly accessible sources

[–] Bloobish@hexbear.net 20 points 3 months ago

In all honesty this is why the term "critical support" is used, i.e. the individual is not an angel but is opposed to western advances that would have left Syria desolate/destroyed and in the hands of regressive terrorist groups that are even more reactionary towards various groups. i.e. Gadaffi was taken out in Libya and the Arab Spring happened and then suddenly there were open air human slave markets selling women and children in areas of Egypt and Libya is a good example of what happens when "western liberation" occurs in the Middle East and is why "critical support" is oriented towards understanding that things could be EVEN WORSE.

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I don’t know if there are many “good policies” outside of fighting against an invasion by the US, Israel, and western backed militias and ISIS terrorists. That is basically Syria’s modern existence. If he’s replaced by a pro-US puppet then Syria will likely face the same fate as Libya.

[–] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago

Insofar as my "support" means anything at all, it's on the basis of him being an enemy of Israel whose country has been fighting for its life for a long time against terrorists and imperialists. I don't especially like the Ayatollah (though I think he's a smart guy), but I'd say I'm supportive of Iran for largely similar reasons, though it is a much more secure country than Syria.

[–] ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

who do you consider yourself to be , so your support for a war turn dystopian nightmare returning to peace and Souvereignity is such a precious good to render ?

You can cut the "propably", Aaron Mate uncovered the entire shitshow. It was the terrorists, with cover from the west.

Palestinians have fled to Syria. They were supportive of Assad when he was declaring his support for Palestine, but I believe he’s become unpopular among the demographic after ISIS became the main priority and protests were cracked down.
