An absolute miracle of a story, and strap your seatbelts because it's a long one! Especially the fact that their mom died in an air crash, and because of that the duty was on the older sister, who was just 12, to take care of her siblings (one of them just a year old) in the middle of an extremely dense and dangerous jungle. For over a month, mind you. Them surviving with just some dehydration and mosquito bites is nothing short of heroic.

That's insane. Sad to hear they lost their mother.
Reddit said these kids were dead weeks ago. You're telling me that armchair experts were wrong?!
This incredible story shows how well nature can provide to you, if you know what you are doing...and shows how far away from nature we actually have strived, since most of the users here (myself included), would probably have died of diarrhea after having eaten the first plant.
You can learn however and it's fascinating how much edible stuff grows around you. My gf knows quite a bit about it and at every hike she chews on some seemingly random weed along the way.
That is a very sad story indeed. Mother told children to leave her so they could survive
The mother of the four young Colombian siblings who managed to survive for almost six weeks in the Amazon jungle clung to life for four days after their plane crashed before telling her children to leave her in the hope of improving their chances of being rescued.
Wow! What an incredible and sad story.
