I'm liking the newer art style. Different enough from what we've had from all the NSMB games

[–] alvarolh@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think it looks very beautiful!

[–] Omgarm@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I'm digging the style as well. It's good that not all games look alike.

[–] Boiglenoight@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Yeap. It looks great and different, but not so much so that I'm concerned.

[–] DaveFuckinMorgan@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't think I'll ever get tired of these games to be honest.

[–] victory@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 year ago

Same. My wife isn't much of a gamer but NSMB Wii and NSMBU are some of the only games we'll play together and really enjoy. I think I'd actually pay for subscription DLC for a NSMB-style game if it gave you a few new levels to play through every month or two.

I hoped Mario Maker 2's user-generated content would feel like that, but the levels were so small and puzzle-focused that it really didn't work.

This game is so new. like newer than new. Newer Super Mario Bros

[–] Srootus@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Goated ROM hack, playing through the DS one currently

[–] germtm_@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

and Daisy is also there, i guess.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Yes, she is a playable character.

[–] generalpotato@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I love how well designed the characters look. After so many Mario games using similar models, it's great to see fun animations and creative liberties for these characters. Gameplay looks awesome and super fun as well. New Super Mario Bros was a blast and here's hoping this one is too. Day 1 buy.

Loved the scene where Mario enters the pipe but loses his hat and quickly grabs it. The flowers seem pretty funny and entertaining too. Definitely feels like there is a lot more love and attention invested in this one!

[–] 4am@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Super Mario Bros. Wonder how high these guys got making this game, amirite?

[–] CEO_of_Dolphins@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I guess the mushrooms are finally kicking in

Super Mario Bros: in Linking the Sapient Dream

[–] Hippo@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

The game has a lot of the modern Rayman 2D games' energy. The flowers commenting on what is happening, the musical elements, the generally trippiness.
This looks great.

[–] johnthedoe@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This plus rpg they really hitting that nostalgia market hard this time.
This looks trippy. The talking flowers really made me smile I don’t know why. Yoshi running in the air to get a further jump really reminded me of Yoshi’s island so I’ll give this one a try.

[–] Srootus@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Stoked for Super Mario RPG, played it years ago, never finished it though as I got stuck on a boss. But I'm definitely getting it.

[–] JonDorfman@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Wasn’t expecting to be impressed by a 2D Mario game after New Super Mario Bros. 2 and U. Really excited for this game.

[–] Sebastrion@lemmy.fmhy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Finally, a new Art-Style. It's awesome how animated the Characters are. Mario looking outside the Pipe, holding his hat etc.

[–] Threat_Level_Midnight@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago (3 children)

As someone who enjoyed the "New Super Mario Bros." games, this looks absolutely fantastic. 2D Mario has always been my favorite, so I'm super pumped to see something new that's not "New". Even though I enjoyed the "New" I think it's time to move away from "New" to new. Ya know?

So, is anyone gonna mention the elephant in the room?

[–] redsol2@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Wowee zowee

[–] Ralphensnitch@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Holy cow that's trippy. The game could be really fun as a result of that style though. It isn't exactly like Mario wasn't weird to begin with.

[–] Srootus@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

I'm all for trippy Mario games, breaks the boredm of today's realism games.

[–] die444die@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

can this be released today instead of October?!

[–] Davel23@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

I guess all those mushrooms Mario ate over the years finally caught up to him.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Looks like Mario combined with Rayman Legends.

[–] Srootus@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Huh. I've replied to a bunch of you guys's comments and loads of them doesn't seem to have posted or at least are invisible to me, to anyone else seeing this. Is there a comment from me under the the guy talking about the game being 2.5D?

[–] Cryst@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hm. That's strange. I don't see your comment. Or mine. Weird...

[–] Srootus@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Hopefully this one comes through. I think its something to do with Jerboa, as it keeps coming up with an error languagee_not_allowed, bug possibly?

I'm surprised people care more about Mario RPG with different graphics than this new Mario game. 2D Mario has disappointed us in the past, but this takes leaps and risks Nintendo wasn't willing to take before. The game actually looks really good, and it's flaws are found in many other Nintendo games (People are finding the talking flower irritating, despite so many Nintendo titles having irritating side characters). From what I've seen from this game, it takes dangerous risks, has a nice art style, and actually has difficulty to it.

This one may feel... weird. But I strongly encourage everyone to give this one a chance, even if it somehow turns out being not great, buying this encourages Nintendo to take more creative risks.

(yes I will admit, this game does seem to look like you're on drugs.)

[–] dangblingus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I think people are looking for the next quantum leap for mario games. Nothing wrong with a 2D mario platformer, but it has to do more than New Super Mario Bros and Mario Maker 2. Quite frankly I am more interested in Wonder than RPG. RPG is an S-tier game, and it would be nice to replay, but, you know, it's a super nintendo game. One that anyone could still play right this second.

[–] DarkWasp@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I’ve seen a lot of comparisons to Rayman Origins/Legends (which I’m a fan of) and that fits. I’m just glad Nintendo is trying something slightly different and making a new 2D Mario.

[–] SeeStars@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Finally, no more "New Soup"

[–] Mekboy_nutkrakka@aussie.zone 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Playable Daisy temporarily cured my depression so glad that Daisy is playable in a mainline game (the drugs probably helped) and i think Yoshi is as well cause at 2:00 all 4 are Yoshis and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the easy character like Toadette or Nabbit with a flutter that they normally have 1:46.

It seems you have to take LSD to get the collectables so do drugs kids?

[–] pyyp@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Hopefully when you play as Yoshi, you get to ride Mario.

[–] Srootus@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Sound message Nintendo

[–] Whooping_Seal@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The graphics in this look very intriguing. I'm not sure it'll be my favourite 2d mario game but I am sure I will enjoy it thoroughly! I'm happy Nintendo didn't abandon the format, I was somewhat worried they were going to only make 3d Mario games going forward.

[–] Srootus@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They changed how Yoshi sounds, I say we riot

[–] Whooping_Seal@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

I did not notice this, truly devastating news. I don't know how I shall even be able to sleep at night!

Ngl, I always thought something like this (Mario with 'drugs' that cause weird-ass environment changes) would be amazing. Crazy to see that come to fruition.

I'm usually an extremely patient gamer (see: if it's not on a system I can pick up used for <=$100, or could have at some point in history before it gained collector value, I'm probably not playing it), but I'm almost willing to make an exception here. Almost.

[–] pellotto@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Looks fun, excited

The artstyle update is refreshing. I'm pretty excited to try this one out!
