Many of the Tienanmen protesters were opposed to Deng's market reforms, and some wanted to return to the Cultural Revolution.

Libs: "I support you, brave freedom fighters!"
Maoists at Tiananmen Square: "Bring back beating up liberals in the streets!"
Libs: LOL, China tells the people nothing happened at Tiananmen Square.
"Well, what did happen at Tiananmen Square?"
Libs: Well, they killed people, I think? And there was something about tanks? A protest about... something?
You're underestimating the power libs have to invent shit as they go
Isn't that the guy that climbed on the tank, annoyed them for a few minutes, then got shooed away by bystanders?
People have some weird thought that this guy died that day. The video exists. https://youtu.be/qq8zFLIftGk
I remember the tank man photograph in school text books and posters and boomer memes. Finding out a video exists is like the political version of finding out Santa Clause isn't real.
If you go to some of the uploads of it on Youtube, the comments are filled with people experiencing the mandela effect like "Whaaaaaa?? I could have sworn I saw this decades ago and he died? Is this edited??"
Turns out that repeating a lie often enough really does make it true
