Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Soliciting bribes is illegal.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 23 points 6 months ago (1 children)

How many crimes has he committed and gotten away with?

[–] snooggums@midwest.social 26 points 6 months ago (1 children)

As of this post, all of them.

He hasn't gotten away with the defamation against E. Jean Caroll I'd argue.

[–] Deceptichum@sh.itjust.works 7 points 6 months ago (1 children)

How much has he paid so far?

[–] tristan@aussie.zone 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

He's had to shell out for both to appeal them... The first I believe he put up cash, the second he used properly as a bond

[–] whostosay@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

His donors had to shell out*

[–] snooggums@midwest.social 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Pretty sure that is a civil suit.

[–] Thorry84@feddit.nl 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Yeah he got away with the crime and lost the civil suit. Which makes no sense at all.

Even if they were illegal, what would that change?

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 15 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Ideally, we'd see an arrest, conviction, and some prison time.

[–] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world -1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

On what planet does that seem remotely likely at this point? He said it himself, he could shoot an innocent point blank on cam and it would only make him more popular.

He spent most of this week in a courtroom on trial for falsifying business records to cover for his paying to prevent news coverage of a porn star he slept with, and may well end up in prison if convicted. So yes, it's possible.

I'll believe it when I see it. Doesn't mean I won't hope for it though. But something tells me this mfer basically has real life plot armor. At least until now.

He's not going to prison. You know that. Besides, even if he did it's been nearly a decade since he committed those crimes. Regular people don't get to run free for 8 years after they commit crimes, all while threatening judges and prosecutors. There's very obviously a different standard for him than the rest of us and that's not changing. Justice isn't coming at all, but for the sake of the argument, justice delayed is still justice denied.

Run free... and serve a full 4 year term as President of the fucking country

Whether he can get the money he's begging for. CREW is likely going to be suing him, because it almost certainly is illegal (you can say you'll remove Biden's environmental progress, and you can beg for money from Big Oil, but you can't do it in the same breath).
