If it was really their God they'd allow total free trade between all nations without restriction.
True, the free market isn't their god. Just the market that caters for the current members of the bourgeoisie, all else be damned.
Capital is a vengeful demon that must be muzzled and leashed or it will destroy everything in its path.
I once ran across an essay describing Capitalism as the manifestation of an evil eldritch god, and... it kinda worked for me. I'll be fucked if I can find a link to it now, though. Just wanted to comment that I agree wholeheartedly
I think it’s a good metaphor for what the state does for capital. Capitalism by its nature destroys cultural signifiers by co-opting them over and over until they become meaningless. It can’t afford to do the things humans have historically done to preserve culture over long periods of time. It needs growth and therefore it needs the speed at which culture transforms to accelerate. It acts a lot like an intrusive species, burning through its food source and destroying the balance of the ecosystem. The state acts like an insulator, slowing this process and making it more sustainable.

You could in fact double the MSRP of many Chinese EVs due to tarriffs and they would still be a better value than 80% of the trash EVs America and Europe puts out.

How about we counter the "threat" of Chinese EVs with accessible, comfortable, and fast public transport?
Well that doesn't sound very profit margins! Let's continue relaxing classifications and safety regs on big cars (take a shot every time something is labelled a LIGHT TRUCK to skirt safety rules) and not make anything small or affordable. American dream! 
It's not just the elcrric vehicles either our entire auto industry depends on not letting companies that aren't dumb as fuck sell cars here.
If those light kei trucks werent outlawed here it would kill of three separate vehicle markets because they're better work trucks than America's trucks, better commuters than an 8 seat suv being driven by one person and they cost a third of our "cheap" cars

yeah those trucks do exist here. you seem them on occassion and id say they are even becoming a bit more common
