At the beginning of the 20th century, Chilean workers had no social or labor legislation that favored or protected them. It was they themselves, through mutual benefit societies, resistance societies and mancomunales, who organized themselves to protect their associates and promote proletarian solidarity.

The FederaciΓ³n Obrera de Chile (FOCH) began as a grouping of railroad workers with a mutualist orientation linked to the Democratic Party. In the mid-1910s, saltpeter workers began to join and it acquired a national character. Likewise, the Democratic Party lost influence when the revolutionary ideas of the Socialist Workers Party led by Luis Emilio Recabarren, who later became the Communist Party, were imposed on the organization, and the Federation assumed an anti-capitalist and revolutionary attitude that was strongly manifested in the social mobilizations that characterized the 1920s.

However, the enactment of the social laws and the Labor Code, between 1925 and 1931, radically changed the conformation of the labor movement and workers' organizations. From then on, the unions and their federations debated whether to accept the new legislation and submit to its rules, as was the case of workers and employees in the state sector and large companies, or to continue with the classist and revolutionary discourse. The leadership of the workers' movement, which adhered to the latter line, was divided between three large organizations: the FOCH, linked to the Communist Party, the CGT (National Confederation of Workers), of anarchist inspiration, and the CNS (National Confederation of Trade Unions), of socialist origin.

In 1934, the violent repression by Arturo Alessandri's government of a national railroad strike was reacted by the unity of the different workers' organizations. Thus, the Unified Command that emerged from the strike was transformed into a Trade Union Unity Front, which organized a Trade Union Unity Congress in December 1936, giving rise to the Confederation of Chilean Workers (CTCH).

The strength acquired by the new workers' organization allowed them to form part of the political alliance that supported the candidacy of the radical Pedro Aguirre Cerda in the 1938 presidential election. The triumph of the Popular Front gave the CTCH a direct link with the new government, which, although it allowed it to grow as an organization, would later be the cause of its division and loss of prominence.

Indeed, at the end of the 1940s, the workers' movement, which was strongly linked to the Communist Party through the Confederation of Workers of Chile, was strongly repressed and weakened by the government of Gabriel Gonzalez Videla when he enacted the Law for the Defense of Democracy or "Damned Law". Consequently, the leadership of the workers' movement was taken over by employee organizations, especially in the public sector, which through the leadership of Clotario Blest managed to organize a new workers' confederation in 1953: the Central Unitaria de Trabajadores (CUT).

Taking a break from touching grass by touching rock. Surprisingly comfortable after an intense run.

For reasons that I cannot explain I have ended up on the site lesswrong, a website where one of the users is a public defender. I'm going to assume this is accurate since he also writes articles for Jesse Singal, I'm also going to take him at his word that he's middle eastern. His entire writing career is shitting on his own clients, about how they're all guilty, how the police do good work, and how both BLM and now the Gazan protestors are bad and deluded fools. I don't know how you, as this man claims, spend a decade as a public defender writing articles about how the police rule and the poor drool, but he supposedly does and I this person's existence is annoying me. I could have not known about this person, and my life would have been no lesser for it. I wish to unknow about this person.

I wonder if Xoana Herrera ever has pangs of guilt over what she did, like Einstein with the atom bomb.

When he (Mas'ūd) had been the youthful governor of Herat, he had built a house for his afternoon siesta in the garden of this ('Adnānī) palace. This house was cooled by water dripping down the hangings within it, and its walls were adorned with lascivious paintings of nude men and women in various convivial scenes

My pal at work revealed to me something I'd totally missed for decades. All the saiyans in dbz are named after vegetables. Kakarot (carrot), Raditz (radish), Nappa (nappa), Brolli (Brocolli) and the prince of Saiyans is Vegeta, for vegetables in general. Blew my fucking mind

I met this guy and he seems real nice but I don't know I just sort of get this vibe about him. That's what sucks about being a communist is you see things most people would overlook so you can get these bad vibes but not really have anything specific to point to and prove this guy is bad news so you just have to live with this gut feeling until the person your worried about does something to hurt the people you care about. But I just for the life of me can't figure out if I'm on to something or if I just need to chill out. I mean maybe it's the fact that he always wears that SS uniform and his name is Baron Von Issanazi but other than that I just can't pinpoint what's giving me a vibe with this guy.

I would like to not do 5 essays over the next couple of weeks actually. I would like to get high instead

[–] Bat@hexbear.net 10 points 8 months ago

food shitI've only been eating about 800 or less calories day this week and I feel like it permanently changed my stomach. I used to be able to just eat and eat and eat and it was my go to emotion/stress coping mechanism, but like I just ate a small sandwich and I feel so full I feel like I'm going to throw up. I had a fast day on Monday but I've gone a day without eating before and nothing notable happened but this time it like reprogrammed my stomach and now eating anything hurts. I've lost almost 10 pounds in 7 days

Trans people and gay people dont do anything to you but you feel slighted by something, why not start with the things actually visible in your community. Propaganda is so bad, i cant stay here forever its insane

was too much of a cracker to try a new breakfast sandwich at the taqueria, the description had words i didn't know and i was confused by "chilaquiles green, red, or campechanos" and choked when i should have asked 'hey what's that mean is that like a choice or something' (i googled the words but the context confused me, like it's missing a word? green or red what??) but just got the breakfast burrito instead because i know it's super dank and didn't have to talk to someone while stoned and/or risk getting a sandwich less dank than the burrito

There's a squirrel teasing my dog right now. It's hanging out on the lowest branch of one of the trees in my yard (which is still like twenty feet up), looking down and making noises at her. It knows what it's doing.

If you have Deluxe Retaining Soil, you can turn a shed into a second greenhouse using the garden pots. Your only limitations with the pots is you can't use Ancient Seeds, and flowers in the pots won't trigger beehives to produce flower specific honey.

wtf my heart feels kind of fucked up. I don’t think it’s beating any harder or faster but I can like feel it in my entire body. This started last night and I actually had a hard time sleeping because of it and now it’s still happening after waking up the next morning

Am I dying?

okay I ate something with a lot of sodium and potassium and it's gotten a lot better

I spend so much time at Hexbear that I forgot how annoying and tedious libs can be about what they consider to be imprecise language. I made a joke about the FDA's inaction on raw milk and bird flu. My joke audaciously asked if the FDA did ever did anything. That caused them agita. One guy snidely told me I should google. So I did and I gave him a WaPo article, he blocked me, and then he replied to me even though I couldn't see it. I know about the reply because I used another site to snoop.

I really wish there were literally any recourse for dealing with shitty reddit mods but woops they get to be insane power tripping tyrants at will. Is there a subreddit where people bitch about it? Because jfc fuck /r/news mods. Comment gets shadow deleted, i'm like "why" and the fucking assholes just curtly link the sub rules. Guess what cocksucker? I didn't break a rule and get a mod removal, IT WAS SHADOW DELETED BECAUSE OF SOME KIND OF WORD FILTER. I state that and ask again and they just ban me and mute me after accusing me of "not bothering" to read their rules.

I'm pretty sure it's because I said "workers had to fight to the death for the 8 hour workday" and their dumbfuck ChatGPT 1.0 level filter is like "omg violence" but it would have been nice for these shitfuck bastards to articulate that instead of treat me like Im the fucking asshole for having the audacity to want to know why I was censored.
