I disagree, tax is the price you pay for living in a civilization. It pays for infrastructure, social security and more.

Whether the country actually uses it well is another story.

[–] CaptPretentious@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How is that any different than a subscription fee?

Be it some MMORPG or streaming service... it's still a large number of people putting in money for infrastructure and services and often end up with money being misappropriated against what the people want and someone somewhere making bank off it. Look at all the cancelled shows on Netflix that people loved, or shows that were given the greenlight where people are like 'what the actual fuck' (like that one pedo show)... and then flaunt money to piss of other people like with the writers strike and Netflix posting a 900K a year for some AI developer...

Taxes were the example of how to leech on the people under the guise of a protection racket. They knew with subscriptions what they were upon creation, a racket without the promise of protection. It’s getting bled by a third party, and now it’s multiple parties all hoping you’ll forget they’re slowly milking you too.

I mean I don't want my taxes spent on bombing other people, but I also want my roads paved, my meat inspected and my firefighters paid up.

You don't go to NIST to get it weighed and measured every year like your doctor recommends?

[–] michael@lemmy.perthchat.org 4 points 1 year ago

...okay you're not in any trouble, but we need to talk.

Yep, you stop paying for taxes for long enough. You'll stop enjoying life.

Be the change you want to be, go off grid and live off the land without technology, like our hunter gatherer ancestors.

[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

I'm not sure I should trust advice from Sheogorath tbh

[–] michael@lemmy.perthchat.org 1 points 1 year ago

Start dealing crystal on the streets and buy a handgun. Young, wild and tax free...

[–] Skipcast@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well, without taxes countries would fall apart, so there's that.

[–] ButtholeSpiders@startrek.website 14 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Sure. But, to be fair, most if not all are currently huge flaming clown cars heading towards an ecological cliff. ¯\(ツ)

[–] Audbol@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

You could move to what that isn't

That's just present bias

[–] dragonflyteaparty@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's a little funny, but it's better to crowd source a society and pay for things up front than it is to have every single thing be a toll. Could you imagine fire fighters verifying your credit card before they come out?

[–] PsychedSy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Why are those the only two options? If we're free to organize ourselves and our communities how we want we could work out all sorts of innovative ways to make life suck less instead of one size fits all. Especially when that one size has a habit of impacting marginalized people more.

Here. Take a breath, relax, and have some beans. Welcome to Lemmy.

I’m already gassy, the beans might make you regretful.

[–] devious@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago (4 children)

I didn't sign up for the free trial! :(

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You tried cancelling it?

People get really upset.

It's really been constructed to keep you as a sub

I think they allowed crying at birth as an acceptance of the contract, then they take your foot print.

[–] Touching_Grass@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

You're not forced to stay or anything.

[–] Nahvi@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Your parents signed you up for it.

[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Right, where's the lifetime purchase option?

[–] Golther@infosec.pub 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Isn't that just the way to skip payment altogether?

[–] Golther@infosec.pub 1 points 1 year ago

You have to pay the bribes first.

[–] Blackdoom@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Sick of the microtransactions. And even worse, now it has to be always online...

[–] Diprount_Tomato@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

[–] kameecoding@programming.dev 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

because you got brain damage from how stupid the meme is?

[–] Diprount_Tomato@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No need to get butthurt about a silly comment

[–] kameecoding@programming.dev 1 points 1 year ago

not butthurt at all, it's a joke implying you need to be brain damaged to understand the "tax is a theft" crowd because they are a brain damaged bunch
