News and Discussions about Reddit
Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.
Doesn't matter, no one looks at them anyway.
Is it frivolous if the information in the ticket is true and accurate?
would be a shame if you wrote a script that filed a frivolous ticket to let them know what you think about their platform every second
I don't get it, are they blocking access without login in general? Or is this because the traffic was in fact somehow suspicious? Or is this to prevent data harvesting?
I got this while on a VPN, I'd assume reddit is trying to accomplish:
- Blocking malicious attempts from anonymous Ips
- Blocking Data Scraping
- Forcing users to divulge their ip information for tracking purposes.
Definitely trying to stop scraping, because they are trying to sell their data for AI training purposes.
That dataset is gonna be scary if they don't filter it out a ton.
Future AIs will seek training data from Reddit only to find that they might as well have just asked chatGPT for training data because Reddit uses that to try to get real person engagement and some business major figures they have so many AI generated posts so why not just sell those?
Using VPN is necessary for some I think, if they live in Iran or in general if they are atheists in a muslim country.
So I don't think VPN in itself should be enough.
It's presumably "okay" under those circumstances to force a login.
This appears to only be enforced if you aren't logged into an account.
Yes, the rare occasions in which I have to stoop to click a reddit link on VPN, I used to get the 'woah there partner!' or whatever version, but now they have this instead lol.
Just click a button and get a new VPN server nearby the old one and boom, no more block.
Fuck you spez
Or use a redirect to libreddit extension...
Probably blocking users on VPN who are not logged in, or some IP blocking like that.
It is definitely this. "You're not profilable, how do you expect us to sell you to advertisers?"
I was running a web browser on an azure VM and clicked a reddit link in my search results only to see this page.
I'm not logging into my personal reddit account at work (or creating a work reddit account) so I just found my information elsewhere.
They block my hurricane electric ipv6 tunnel too.
Do what, now?
The audacity paired with the mascot wearing a Fedora sums up Reddit pretty good.
look…
I feel like everyone keeps forgetting that Reddit not only needs our metadata, but so much so in fact, that they need us to be able to bypass their own censorship in order to reach their servers, and to do so in the most anonymous way possible and without requiring their scripts to run in our browsers:

This is nothing new, hence why they literally call it old. I can remember all the way back in nineteen ninety eight, when The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell in a Cell, and plummeted sisxteen feet through an announcer's table.
Always has been.
YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME. I WASN'T READY.
Oh i got something for them to look into i do

Privacy Guides has a note on their page about Private frontends:
The Old Reddit website doesn't require as much JavaScript as the new Reddit website does, but it has recently blocked access to IP addresses reserved for public VPNs. You can use Old Reddit in conjunction with the Tor Onion that was launched in October 2022 at https://old.reddittorjg6rue252oqsxryoxengawnmo46qy4kyii5wtqnwfj4ooad.onion.
Alternatively you can just use Redlib as described in this post: https://lemmy.world/post/14141628
